Your tour starts with a conversation: who's coming, what draws you to Wales, how much ground you'd like to cover and how much you'd rather leave to the day.
From the first message to the last day
-
The first message
A few lines is enough: who's coming, roughly when, and what you'd like to see. Some guests write eight months ahead, some a few weeks before. You'll hear back as soon as we can.
-
Planning it together
Then the planning, by email or on a call, in as much detail as you like: how early you like to start, how much walking suits everyone, whether the last day should be a quiet one. You bring what you have in mind, and we may suggest things you wouldn't have known to ask for.
-
The first draft
We send a route, day by day, with options wherever there's a choice to make. Most plans change a few times before they settle. That's what a draft is for.
-
The quotation
When the plan feels right, we'll send a quotation for the whole trip, and a deposit secures your dates.
-
The week before
Collection times and places are confirmed, and your itinerary is waiting at its own link.
Your itinerary, at one link
Every guest gets their trip at its own web address: the route on a map with each stop numbered, the days in order with the collection time for each, and some information about each place. It opens on a phone, and you can send it to anyone travelling with you.
On the day
Celticos collects you from wherever you're staying. The plan is where the day starts: the weather, how everyone's feeling and whatever catches your interest will change it, and that is always the deal. A wet morning moves indoors. A place you love gets the extra hour. A road you'd never have found on your own becomes part of the route.
Lunch comes with a local recommendation of one of our favourites.
- Mercedes V-Class
- Six in comfort, seven at most
- Water on board
- One party only, never shared
“A number of little surprises along the way just added the feeling this tour was especially for us.”
How many days?
Wales looks small on a map and drives slowly, because the best roads are the narrow ones. As a rough guide:
- One day
-
One part of North Wales, properly: Anglesey, the heart of Snowdonia, the Llŷn Peninsula or the Dee Valley.
Examples: North Wales Day Tours
- Two or three days
-
North Wales without rushing, from the mountains to the castles and the Menai Strait.
Examples: Snowdonia & The MenaiHighlights of North Wales Tour
- Four to seven days
-
All of North Wales in depth, or the long road south from Snowdonia.
Examples: Four Landscapes of North WalesNorth Wales Grand TourThe Grand Wales Circuit
- Eight days or more
-
The whole country.
Examples: Eight Days in WalesTen Days in Wales
Every one of these is an example, and any of them can be shortened, lengthened or joined to another.
Built around what you love
Most trips start from an interest. A few that John is often asked for:
If yours isn't here, please let us know.
Getting here, and where Celticos meets you
Collection is wherever suits you: your hotel anywhere in North Wales, the cruise terminals at Holyhead and Liverpool, the Dublin ferry, a railway station or an airport, or London when the trip begins in England. The drive in can be part of the trip, with a stop or two on the way.
How pricing works
Celticos is priced by the day, not by the person: the same whether there's one of you or seven. Seven can be tight, though, and we usually recommend no more than six. Eight or more is possible, with a second vehicle. Once the plan has settled, we'll send a quotation for the whole trip, and a deposit secures the dates.

Questions people ask first
- What time do we start and finish?
Usually around 9am to 5pm, but we are flexible. What matters most is that you have a good time, so if starting earlier or finishing later makes for a better day, that is what we will do.
- How many of us can come?
Up to 7 guests, travelling together in our Mercedes V-Class. Seven can be tight, so we usually recommend no more than 6. For a party of 8 or more, get in touch and we will make special arrangements.
- How far ahead should we get in touch?
Whenever suits you. Some guests write eight months ahead, some a few weeks before. It's best to confirm availability as soon as possible.
- Can children come?
Children are welcome. Not every tour suits every age, so tell us their ages when you get in touch and we will plan the day around them. We are not able to accommodate infants and babies.
- What should we wear and bring?
Sensible footwear for some light walking, and a rain jacket, just in case.
- How much walking is involved?
Some, and none of it strenuous: the walk from the car to a castle gate or a viewpoint. If walking is a concern, tell us and we will plan the stops accordingly.
- Where should we stay?
Somewhere central, so that touring time is not spent driving to the start. Our accommodation advice lists places our guests have used, and we are happy to suggest a base for your tour.
Planning for someone else?
If you're arranging this for someone else, as a travel advisor, an assistant, or the one in the family who does the planning, Celticos is glad to work with you directly, and the itinerary link can go straight to whoever is travelling.
“Our trip had been planned by a travel agent, but throughout our journey, he made a number of wonderful suggestions for changes in our planned itinerary, and every place that he chose turned out to be delightful!”
Whenever you're ready
A few lines is enough to start: who's coming, roughly when, and what draws you to Wales.
