Six wonderful days in Wales
If you ever get a chance to travel to Wales, you much seek out John Pritchard owner of Celticos.com. He is outstanding in so many ways. He is a true Welsh with so much knowledge about the history, fables and culture. He will treat you to culinary delights of oggies, Dylan’s brown sauce, Welsh cakes and so much more. He is kind, funny, flexible and extremely helpful. If you are not sure of what you want to see, he will curate a memorable trip after gathering what your preferences might be. We could not have asked for a better driver/tour guide. He has become a dear friend of ours.

We traveled to Wales from NYC and John was incredible.
We traveled to Wales from NYC and John was incredible. He spent 3 days with me, my sisters and my mom for her 80th birthday. He customized the days for us and even connected us with a genealogist to track her family. I highly recommend him
John Prichard and Celticos is the Best!!!!!
John Pritchard and Celticos is the Best!!!!
Three couples traveled to Northern Wales with John in June 2026. We had the time of our lives. For three days he kept each and every one of us not only happy but entralled. We had to work around some bad weather and he adjusted his schedule to make it work. His love for his country realy showed and his knowledge is impressive. When the group wanted to do two different things, he arranged everything. He had to pick 3 of us up at 6 am to climb Snowden, and then pick the rest up at 9 am. He gave great advice throughout the trip. We felt like we got to know the region much better with him as our quide. His enthusiasm and love for Wales are infectious. We traveled in his very nice travel Mercedes van each day and he had water ready for us.
I would whole-heartily recommend John.
Incredible Introduction to Wales
We had a fantastic day with John - from the moment he picked us up in London to our final destination in Wrexham, Wales. The drive across England flew by, thanks to John’s engaging and informative conversation. We even learned a little Welsh along the way! He perfectly curated our stop in Llangollen to have lunch, ride along the canal, and visit the amazing Pontcysylite Aqueduct before dropping us at our hotel in Wrexham. He also made sure we had the most brilliant guide for our walking tour of Wrexham the next day. Wales was a highlight of our trip and John was a big part of that. Can’t recommend him or his services highly enough
Fabulous tour of Wales!
We had a fabulous trip through Wales, thanks to John and Celticos! We really appreciated that John is a native of Wales, knowledgeable and an experienced guide – not to mention being a kind, considerate and enjoyable person to travel with. He communicated with us many times during the planning process, always quickly and clearly, to ensure we would see and experience all the “must do’s” as well as the things on our wish list. He also gave us advice and new ideas, as he learned our interests and adjusted our itinerary both before and even during our tour to work around rainy days and to accommodate what we wanted to do each day. He went above and beyond to investigate and get input from an expert and was able to take us to the location of our ancestor’s farm and church burial sites – that was an amazing experience for our family. We had so much fun learning some of Wales’ amazing history, trying to learn a few words and listen to his fluent Welsh language, and Welsh songs, as we saw this beautiful country. John even took us to many of the best places for excellent local and historic dishes to try – we loved them! We highly recommend John for a fantastic trip through Wales!
2026: Just back from our 2nd tour with John.
2026: Just back from our 2nd tour with John. If possible, it was even better than our first. When I look back at the photos we took in three days, I can't believe how much we did... and never once felt hassled, hurried or rushed. It's really an amazing talent that he has. John is passionate and knowledgable about all things to do with Welsh culture and history, which adds a rich layering to the experience. You really come out of your tour with an appreciation for this most beautiful part of the world.I can't say enough positive things about the care John puts into his work and how concerned he is for his clients' enjoyment. Give him an idea of what you want to see, the things you like, and he'll expand it into something far above your expectations. He's also a supremely talented driver... and Wales is not an easy country to navigate on the roads from what I can tell. From the first pickup to the last drop-off, we felt safe and well cared for.We still have about a third of the country to see and can't wait to tour with Celticos again... and when we finish that third, we'll start all over again! Thank you, John, for yet another incredible journey!2024: Having spent a most memorable and outstanding three days touring North Wales with John, I can't speak highly enough of our experience with Celticos. From the very initial inquiry to the final handshake, John was the consummate professional. He hit every single one of our 'must sees' on the itinerary and added quite a few that quickly became highlights. It would be nearly impossible to pick a favorite! We learned about history, language, culture... and the Welsh landscape, from mountains to beaches, just took our breath away. I felt we got outstanding value for the price, made a new friend and came home with a lifetime of great new memories. Thank you John, and we're looking forward to touring with you again in the future!

John’s tour thru the Welsh country side was one of the best tours I’ve ever done. Such a great taste of the rich history as well as local taste and flavor. Would give this tour 10 stars if I could.

Another ten-star journey with a consummate professional
Second time touring with John and like a fine wine - or some of the Welsh cheese he brought along for sampling - he's getting better with age, if that's even possible. Consummate professional, taking the things you want to do and see and expanding to make your experience as layered and rich as you could ever want. His knowledge and passion are both considerable and obvious. He's always looking out for new and interesting things, all the while showing maximum concern for your comfort and safety. He clearly cares about his clients and strives to give them the best time for their investment. And hands-down one of the best drivers I've ever seen!
This is one of those situations where you come in as a customer and truly leave as a friend, but I understand that may not be what people really want... when you're paying for a bespoke tour, you probably want to leave with memories of a good time more than a new buddy. Be assured in that case, John and Celticos are definitely your ticket to the Welsh experience of a lifetime. When we first toured with him two years ago, I knew nothing about Wales and came out of it with a hunger to go back, to see and hear more about this beautiful country and intriguing culture. I wrote to him with a few ideas, which he developed into an incredible itinerary covering the central region. Over three days, John delivered for us again in a big way. From UNESCO sites to incredible scenery in the national parks, charming villages, and stunning castles/gardens, Wales just makes you want to keep coming back and there's no one better to do it with than John. I recommend him once again with the highest confidence!
Anglesey and Wild North Wales
Our trip to Anglesey and other areas of north wild Wales was a memorable experience. Much of the thanks goes to John who easily accommodated our wish to slow down and take a relaxed approach since we had been traveling for more than a week. We wanted to visit my husbands’s grandfather’s home in Aberffraw and take in the surrounding countryside. John taught us about the area’s history, legends, myths and some Welsh language. He took us to some of his own favorite local spots and we felt we saw the real Wales instead of the tourist version. John is the the perfect ambassador for Wales and its people, history and modern sights. Diolch, John.
A Gwych Welsh Immersive Experience!
This was my third trip to North Wales and my husband’s first as I have family in North Wales but Anglesey was one area of Wales that I had not explored as much. Considering Anglesey is the “Mother of Wales” and an ancient Druids stronghold we wanted a more immersive experience. If you have never been to Wales, trust me when I say, easy immersive navigation is not what you’re going to find!
We decided to book John for the day and we experienced so much more than what we expected, on the tour day and beyond! As a Welsh born tour guide, John is thoroughly schooled in the history, beauty, the people, and the “must do/see” spots. He navigated us through places that I really would not have thought advisable to attempt and we experienced such a wonderful day with him. Not only did we have the opportunity to walk-through and see some of the most significant places of Anglesey, we had the opportunity to talk with some of the locals and business owners that he knew.
If you are on the fence about booking John for your very special trip to an even more special part of the world, just hop right off and do it. He is a warm, considerate, knowledgeable and accommodating person that can give you so much more than you would ever get on your own! AND, he consistently checked in on us during our remaining days “on our own” providing recommendations for other places to visit.
Thank you, John, for an amazing experience!

An Unforgettable Journey Through WalesWe recently completed a four-day tour of North Wales with John from Celticos, and it was nothing short of exceptional from start to finish. John’s commitment to our experience began long before we even set foot in Wales. He coordinated with us via Zoom and stayed in constant communication to answer our many questions. What truly set him apart was his willingness to help us problem-solve our travel logistics, ensuring our arrival was stress-free. Once we arrived, John’s hospitality was unmatched. He provided excellent suggestions and customized our tour based on our interests. Exploring the Snowdonia countryside
We toured Wales /Snowdonia region with John from Celticos Tours as our guide and had a wonderful time exploring the nooks and crannies. John was a superb host, giving us great options for hitting so many beautiful locations. He struck the right balance of nature, culture, history and food options. Making Memories in Wales
We recently completed a four-day tour of Northern Wales and thankfully John Pritchard from Celticos was with us every step of the way. Before we even step foot in Wales, John worked closely with us to make sure our travel details to Wales and itinerary were completely customized to our needs.
Throughout our entire stay and touring experience with John, he continually went above and beyond making sure we not only hit the key locations on our itinerary but also giving us quite a flavor for the Welsh culture, food, landscape and language. His good natured personality combined with his quick wit and phenomenal storytelling abilities of “all things Wales” make John the perfect ambassador for his homeland.
If you are preparing to visit Wales, plan on connecting with Celticos as John will absolutely ensure that your experience will be one that you will never forget!

The BEST Wales Experience and Tour Guide!
For all you TripAdvisor researchers, like me, searching for best experience and tour guide in Wales…search no more. John Pritchard, owner of Celticos, is the best-of-the-best and saw to our every need and desire during our recent visit.
John is truly exceptional. Proud of his heritage and culture, he is on a mission to show off his country. He is so knowledgeable about all things Wales. He ensured that we visited all the famous and scenic tourist destinations, but he also adapted each day of touring to US. My husband wanted to golf . . . John advised us on best locations and took us to golf courses. We wanted to pick up a British football (soccer) match, he sets up a tour in Wrexham. We wanted to see the culture, he takes us to a sheep farm/weaver, pubs, local fish & chips and coffee shops. We want to run over to Liverpool (his favorite city outside of Wales), he sets up a tour there which would include seeing the famous Beatles sites. And more. Very good communicator ahead of and during the trip. He gives so much thought into every aspect of our experience . E.g. upon arrival, he welcomed us with Welsh cakes and delicious cheeses.
On top of his touring skills, he is just an all-around great guy . . . reliable, kind, humble, fun, honest, caring and smart. A wonderful ambassador to his country.
I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that we now intend to return to Wales so we can explore more and hang with John.
John Pritchard's Celticos Tours takes service to whole new level
John Pritchard did a fantastic job customizing our tour to our unique needs. Besides being exceptionally knowledgeable about the area, John is a very nice person who could not be more helpful. Our trip was interrupted by a serious physical injury which curtailed our travel plans dramatically but thankfully John was there to help us get to the hospital and navigate the overwhelmed healthcare system. He went way beyond the call of duty helping us adjust to this urgent situation that called for support at all hours of the night. John was there for us around the clock to make sure we received the very best care we could get. If there is an award that goes to tour guides who go way beyond the call of duty, John deserves it.

The Bespoke tour of north Wales with John Pritchard is an exceptional day out and a must do for anyone who wants to experience this amazing part of the world, like a local. From the warm welcome to little surprises along the way, John went out of his way to make our day memorable. And it was. A highlight of the day was our stop for lunch, as suggested by John. In a snug little cafe we felt like locals not tourists. John is knowledgeable, engaging and makes every effort to meet your needs. A wonderful guy, an excellent tour a beautiful location.
Great day out in northern Wales.
Two couples from Australia. . Our cruise ship decided to bypass Holyhead and go straight to Liverpool. We had a tour booked with John and he came and picked us up in Liverpool. Wonderful day out - john made sure we saw the best places with great commentary on the way.
Like a day out with friends
Our day with John was not like being on a tour but more like sharing a road trip with family. He went out of his way to accommodate a number of last minute changes we had to make, but did not compromise on our journey through north Wales. His warm welcome, clear explanation of our journey and options, knowledge and engaging manner were exceptional. A number of little surprises along the way just added the feeling this tour was especially for us. Our stop for lunch, suggested by John, made us feel like locals. At no time did we feel rushed and John made adjustments to our journey without hesitation. A simply wonderful day.

Truly unforgettable
I had the pleasure of experiencing a one-day tour with Celticos Tours, guided by Mr. John, and it was truly unforgettable. Even though it was just a single day, we managed to see so many beautiful places in North Wales and gain so much insight into the region's history and culture.
Mr. John was an exceptional guide: knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about North Wales' best-kept secrets. His comments and tales added a lot to the experience, rendering every stop worth it and memorable.
Well-planned itinerary: an opportunity to see stunning landscapes, charming towns, historical landmarks without any urgent feeling. John was super flexible about customizing the tour: 'If you want to stop at this place and take pictures, please just let me know.'
I highly recommend Celticos Tours to anyone seeking an authentic and enriching experience in Wales.

Exceptional North Wales Experience with a Knowledgeable Guide - A Comfortable and Insightful North Wales Tour with John
We had a wonderful North Wales tour covering Snowdonia, Anglesey, Conwy, Caernarfon, Betws-y-coed, Menai Bridge, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and the unforgettable sunset at Great Orme. The entire tour was well planned and thoroughly enjoyable.
John Pritchard has an in-depth knowledge of the region and shared fascinating insights about the area, including a brief yet engaging history of the places we visited, which added great value to the tour. He also helped us plan the itinerary thoughtfully and was extremely accommodating to our needs throughout the trip. He was extremely helpful with my two children and showed exceptional care towards one child who has mobility challenges.
Travelling in his Mercedes van was very comfortable, making the journey relaxing and pleasant. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and we would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting North Wales.

Beyond amazing - we keep coming back!
Our experience with John and Celticos Tours was beyond amazing! We've had the pleasure of touring with John twice in 3 years and he absolutely nailed everything we wanted to do and see. We saw the beautiful small towns of Wales, one cuter and more inviting than the next. Our hikes took us to gorgeous waterfalls, historic seaside lighthouses, churches, and more… all with stunning views.
To say the people of Wales are friendly is an understatement. From the Sunday Pot Roasts in the local pubs (best EVER!), to the bakeries, to every small business, they couldn't be more accommodating. We were lucky enough to be in Wales for 6 days, starting from breathtaking Anglesey, to Wrexham (where we were invited to go on the pitch!), through Snowdonia, to the world's highest aqueduct, down to Tenby… where we had very high expectations and we were not at all disappointed! Our accommodations were second to none, yet very affordable, with beautiful countryside inns, seaside spas, and waterfront homes, which were all unbelievably comfortable.
After seeing South Wales, we toured the picturesque coast back to Anglesey, where our tour would sadly end. It was such an amazing trip because John is a one of a kind tour guide, who makes you feel right at home. His love for his wonderful country makes touring with him an experience we've never had in all of our travels. Thanks to John, we are already planning our next trip back to Wales. There's always more to see and do!

Cymru am bith! Magical 8-day visit with magnificent scenery, exceptional service, and genuine camaraderie. 10+ stars!
John devised an amazing immersive agenda for our 8 days in Wales, including dramatic scenery (Cwm Idwal National Park, Menai Bridge, Llanrwst, South Stack, Betws-y-coed..), neolithic burial sites (Bryn Celli Ddu), castles (!), St. David’s, Laugharne, the university at Aberystwyth, Brecon Beacons, Hay-on-Wye, Caerleon, and the Big Pit National Coal Museum. Highlight however was watching Wales Rugby in a pub in Tenby: Victory!

We had an incredible experience
We had an incredible experience touring Anglesey and the surrounding area with John. From the very start, his communication was excellent, making everything smooth and easy to plan. Our group ranged in age from our children (10, 11, and 12) to my 75-year-old mother, who had never traveled abroad before, and John was wonderfully accommodating to everyone. His deep knowledge, thoughtful approach, and great sense of fun made the day engaging for all of us—our kids especially loved him. He also partnered with a colleague to help weave in our family's ancestry, which made the day uniquely meaningful. It was truly a special experience that we will always remember.

He delivered just that, all with telling us about Wales. He made sure to ask if there was something that was a must do so he could fit it in, if needed. Started with a coffee, had a wonderful lunch at a local pub, and he took us to places tour buses couldn’t be found. I would definitely book another tour with him.
Holyhead, Wales to Southampton, England
I did a two-day tour with John. We arrived in Wales via ferry from Ireland, and he helped me find the ferry that worked best with our tour schedule. He picked us up at Holyhead Port and drove us to Southampton, England. He worked with me to create an itinerary that best fit my needs. I wanted to see historical sites and must-see places, and John delivered. He created a memorable itinerary that felt more like a road. One that I will never forget!
We saw two castles, charming villages, a few UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and many other beautiful places.
John also took us to a sheep farm, which was one of my favorite stops—I still think about it often!
I highly recommend this company to anyone visiting Wales and England. John is amazing—kind, patient, and very knowledgeable.
We got very lucky in finding Celticos
The guide services provided by John Pritchard with Celticos Tours exceeded our expectations. John's knowledge of the north coast of Wales is extensive and his family history in the area adds color and a depth to understanding in getting to know its people and culture. John is polite, fun, accommodating, and generous with his special treats (e.g., Welsh cakes) along the way. John fulfilled all of our requests with ease. Even checked us into our hotel (along with our luggage) while we grabbed lunch. Big kudos to John.
John Pritchard - Guide Extraordinaire!
John was flexible in organizing our private tour (shore excursion) of Anglesey. At our request, he took us to the Bryn Celli Ddu burial site, the Penrhos Feilw Standing Stones and the Ty Mawr hut circles on Holyhead Mountain. John was punctual, courteous, informative, professional yet friendly and an enjoyable guide with whom to spend the day. He also shared with us his favourite sites in Anglesey such as the Snowdonia National Park and Cwn Idwal, which were magnificent. We were able to see Anglesey through John's eyes, as his love for this part of the world was communicated to us. it was an 8 hour tour but we were back in time before the ship sailed.

Stop searching - book it!
Wow! Stop scrolling for guides and book John directly! I was fortunate to find John who expertly put together a custom first time visit to Wales tour with a special emphasis on my family ancestry. I was short on time (just one day), and John not only brought the local knowledge, language and expertise, but the energy to cover over 200 miles to visit a wide variety of spots from castles, to cultural icons, to natural wonders, cute villages and local food specialties. John also squeezed in sites relevant to my ancestry, even texting along the way a genealogy colleague who provided a missing piece to the puzzle! John is charismatic, funny and an excellent guide. Flexible and imaginative all along the way. He was still sending me ideas of things to do the next day! I couldn't have been more thrilled with the experience in John's capable hands.
Entrusting someone out of the blue with such an important experience can be stressful - but I will be back one day and John is my first call. Don't hesitate!
Thank you John for making my trip so memorable!
100% would recommend
John was a wonderful tour guide. He showed us the best of North Wales. He provided the right amount of education, humor and general talk. He was respectful and prompt every morning. We 100% would recommend.

From the moment that John Pritchard pulled up in front of our bed and breakfast with Welsh cakes and his welcoming smile, it was clear we had a guide that was as excited to show us his home as we were to see it. We had arrived in North Wales by train wanting to see everything, only to learn that you really need a car to do that in a reasonable amount of time. At the last minute, we learned of Celticos and called John. Overnight he put together a custom tour that both hit the places we wanted to go - Beaumaris, Harlech, Segontium, Snowdonia - and added his own "home boy" favorites - Swallow's Falls, Beth Gelert, Anglesey proper, the list goes on and on. Our time with him - which he stretched an hour and a half at no charge - was wonderful, full of great conversation and information (and local food—thanks for the brown sauce rec on those oggies, John!) that helped us feel we understood Welsh history and culture way more deeply than we could have otherwise. You cannot do better than to book your tour with John.
John was an amazing tour guide!

We had a blast on our day tour with John of Celticos.
We had a blast on our day tour with John of Celticos. We were on a Viking cruise but wanted a little different experience so hired John to give us a tour of Anglesey and Snowdonia, with stops at lots of gorgeous vistas and even that crazy town with the long name! We saw coastline and mountains and Beaumaris and the beautiful countryside. John is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He even gave us tips on what to see at our next stop, which was Liverpool. You will be very pleased if you experience Wales with Celticos, particularly John Pritchard!
Custom 4-Day Tour of Wales
We booked John for a four-day private tour through Wales, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the beginning, John went above and beyond to personalize our trip—he took the time to understand our interests, listened to what we wanted (and didn’t want) to see, and then put together a detailed itinerary for us, even suggesting a few interesting alternatives for our consideration.
Upon arrival, John greeted us promptly at the airport with his comfortable and well-kept vehicle. Punctuality and professionalism marked every day of our journey. Throughout the tour, John remained flexible, always willing to adjust plans or add new stops based on our mood and curiosity that day.
What really made the tour special was John’s friendly personality and local knowledge. He was not just informative and prepared, but genuinely fun to spend time with—his stories and insights brought every location to life.
I truly can’t recommend John highly enough. If you want a memorable, customized, and stress-free experience in Wales, do yourself a favor and book a tour with John.

Genealogy Tour
My tour was an amazing tour of my Welsh ancestry. We visited many sites related to my family's life in Wales before they came to the United States. It was thrilling to walk in the places that they would have lived, worked, and worshipped.
Richard was so friendly and personable. It was obvious from the beginning that he loves Wales and was happy to welcome us to his country.
I will never forget this tour and the great memories we made!
Three day group tour of northern Wales
John was an excellent tour guide and a really great guy. Our group of four spent three days touring northern Wales with him. He was always quick to respond to emails, picked us up promptly, very flexible, extremely informative about everywhere we went, and even had snacks! I highly recommend Celticos and John!

Northern Wales with Celticos!
John was a wonderful guide! We were two couples on a Viking cruise, and we decided at this particular port to hire a private guide rather than use the Viking options. We were so glad we did (nothing against Viking!). John met us at Holyhead right on time and chauffeured us to places that we would not have been able to go in a larger vehicle. We saw Snowdonia and Anglesey and lots more with beautiful views and stops along the way. Wales is just gorgeous. John is friendly, easy to work with, and all around a great guy...and he returned us to the ship in plenty of time. This was one of the highlights of our British Isles cruise. Thank you, John!
We left our hearts in Wales ….
We spent 5 days with John and could not have asked for more in a guide and ambassador for Wales! We traveled from Caernarfon to Cardiff but northern Wales has our hearts. We continue to talk incessantly about our trip and it certainly ranks as one of the best we have ever taken! John gave us a wonderful itinerary and each day we were able to adjust according to our interests and John’s suggestions. John would stop when there was something interesting to see - the Mach Loop! We were also very honored to meet his dear Welsh speaking sheep farmer friend, Will, who made the effort to speak with us in English. This was just one of many special highlights of our trip. John’s pride in his homeland and family was evident every day.
If you go to Wales you MUST use John!!

Booking bespoke touring is a great way to travel. No worries about car, parking, driving other side of road, hedge rows, route planning, ensuring you are getting best value for your time in a country. Your own itinerary ideas or assisted with choices, John made our time with him feel like traveling with family. Knowledgeable, drove safely, clean car, on time. We learned so much about North Wales! What a beautiful country. Coordination to a similar South Wales trip worked seamlessly. We really enjoyed John's clear love for his home, his memories, his pride. Great tour of Wales! Our cruise line stopped at the Holyhead port in July 2024. We didn't like any of the cruise line tours on offer so we were looking for something else. We are so glad we found Celticos - and John Pritchard! After our tour and back on the ship, some of our fellow passengers were disappointed to just have wandered the port on their own. They didn't enjoy their day nearly as much as we did.Trusting someone you don't know to get you back to the cruise ship on time feels like a bit of a gamble, but from the consistent and easy communication we had with John in advance of our tour, the positive online reviews, and also immediately when we met him, this concern was put to rest. John was well aware of the time and kept us in good shape all day, so rest assured you are in good hands.And... it was an amazing tour! We packed a lot into about 6.5 - 7 hours! We saw a beautiful mountain pass in Snowdonia, Beddgellert - a stunning Welsh town, lots of heather (I had always wanted to see it), the Menai bridge, Swallow Falls, the town with the longest name, Caernarfon Castle and South Stack lighthouse. Each site was incredibly beautiful. Wish we could have had a little more time in each location, but that was our choice - we wanted to see as much as we could while in Wales. Now we have a reason to go back!John was a knowledge and friendly tour guide. He totally adapted the tour to what we were looking for. His vehicle was comfortable and reliable. He found great places for bathroom and lunch / snacks. All of our needs were met perfectly. And - we really enjoyed meeting John!We would highly recommend Celticos and John Pritchard!

Our group of 6 women from the US spent the most magical week being guided around Wales by John Pritchard and Celticos Tours. During the months before, over Zoom and email, he helped us plan the a custom itinerary. Then, he met us when we arrived by ferry from Dublin, and took us exploring the tidal coasts, ancient castles, short hikes and quaint villages of North Wales and Snowdonia. We then headed south, stopping in Tenby, and ending in Cardiff. He is very knowledgeable about the country and culture, is fluent is Welsh (and made sure we learned a few words!), and would tinker with the itinerary as we went to accommodate our interests and curiosity. Throughout, he safely navigated us on Wales’ tiny back roads in his comfy Mercedes van, and was just a pure joy to spend a week with. We can’t imagine seeing Wales with anyone else, and some of us are planning to go back with family to introduce them to this special country. And, we’ll go with Celticos. Excellent all around, and we are grateful to John for helping us have such an amazing trip.

We used Celticos for two days of touring North Wales.
We used Celticos for two days of touring North Wales. It was a phenomenal experience. We're a family of four (kids were ages 9 and 11 at the time of our tour). John, the tour guide, was friendly, engaging, and very informative. He customized our days to fit our broad plans and helped guide us towards restaurants and other sightseeing spots that we hadn't identified in advance. Our main goals were to see castles including Beaumaris, Conwy, and Harlech. We did Beaumaris and Conwy in one day, with John showing us around Conwy and pointing us to a great lunch spot. The second day we drove to Harlech, stopping at a site of Roman ruins on the way. After Harlech, John suggested a drive through the scenic Snowdonia region including lunch in an amazing mountain town. He dropped us off at the Bangor train station at the end of the day so we could catch a train to our next destination. Additionally, John was very communicative in advance of our trip, even helping to coordinate a taxi for us from Bangor to Caernarfon, where we were staying. I cannot recommend John and Celticos tours enough. It was the best way to see North Wales and a true highlight of our trip to the UK.

We were picked up at the Crewe train station and our adventure began. We stayed on the Irish Sea visited castles, ate great food. Visited Snowdonia, Swallow Falls, the Book capitol of the world and the Welch countryside. Beautiful! We stayed in Montgomery and wine tasted at the Kerry Vale winery built on the former Roman fort.John is polite, friendly, a very good driver and will work with you to plan your trip or make suggestions if you need them.He is a wonderful ambassador to Wales. My/our first trip to Wales. When we go again we will contact John.
Holyhead. Wales is beautiful
We had a great time traveling in two vans around the Anglesey area in Wales. We explored several scenic waterfalls, short hikes, and suspension bridges and had a great lunch. With vans, so many more areas are accessible that a bus can not get to. Strongly recommend Jon and his crew.
Superb guide, driver and company!
John organized a thoughtful schedule for our group of three during the half day that we had available to tour Anglesey before taking the ferry from Holyhead. We really enjoyed the tour as John had planned how to make the most of a few hours to allow us to see Anglesey’s natural beauty and historical sites. Not only is John delightful and easy to interact with, but his knowledge of the area provided informative backdrops as he skillfully drove us around. He was flexible and accommodating with the stops, totally reliable, excellent communicator, and we just had a fantastic time! It was good to catch up with John as this was the second time that we toured with Celticos. I will definitely reach out to him on a next trip to Wales. Thanks John!
Fantastic experience
Outstanding three day tour of North Wales. We saw historic sites and spectacular scenery and John is extremely knowledgeable in explaining Welsh history and culture. He also taught us some Welsh. John also made the tour very personal by showing us where my grandfather grew up. He knew the owner of a cafe who had old photos of the area and she brought them out for us to see. I could visualize my grandfather sitting in the same spot having a coffee. This is just one example of the thought and care that John puts into his tours. John also gave us excellent recommendations for lodging and meals including places to get the best Welsh food. It was an amazing experience. I can’t say enough great things about John’s tour.
Touring North Wales
Celticos was absolutely the best use of our limited time in North Wales. If anyone has the opportunity to go to North Wales, please don’t hesitate to hire John Pritchard to tour you around. John was personable, knowledgeable, informative, and showed us all the best sites in North Wales. I would recommend him wholeheartedly. He drove us around for two days, and it was a total pleasure and really enhanced our experience in that area of the world
An outstanding way to explore North Wales
John could not have been more accommodating of our needs and flexible with our plans. His driving is smooth and safe. Conversations are insightful about the regional history and culture and all the arrangements were carefully thought about so there were no surprises or delays. We couldn’t recommend the business and service highly enough!
Exceeded All Expectations!
Absolutely first class all the way. John designed a specialty shore excursion that allowed us to see everything on our wish list, plus more, at a comfortable pace for us. His recommendations were spot on for our interests. It's rare to find someone who goes to such lengths to ensure their customers happiness and comfort. Great communication before, during, and after our trip. Thank you John for a fantastic day, an excellent lunch, and your patience trying to teach us some Welsh.
Outstanding Custom Shore Excursion
Custom shore excursion from Holyhead that was a trip highlight for us. John is an exceptional guide who managed to include our entire wish list with other stops added in based on our interests. Never felt rushed despite seeing do much. Highly recommend!
The Wonders of Wales
What makes a perfect adventure? One that you are still daydreaming about weeks after your return. Celticos.com (John Prichard) helped us organize and execute a splendid 8 day tour of Wales (from Holyhead to Cardiff with 4 nights in Beaumaris, 2 nights in Tenby and 2 nights in Cardiff ). John spent time, via FaceTime and emails, with our group crafting an itinerary based on our interests and his expertise. Once in Wales John was both our guide and driver. He was thorough, thoughtful, informative, flexible, a great windy-road driver, and an all around nice guy. In addition to the must see’s of Wales, John found us breathtaking hikes, quaint coffee shops, local music, and a Welsh Men’s Choir Rehearsal (a definite must do). An enthusiastic thumbs up for Celticos.com.

Celticos is the best!
I traveled from Minneapolis to Wales as part of a group of six terrific women. We were incredibly fortunate to have John as our guide. He is the best! Not only is he a master driver navigating the ancient and beautiful roads of the Welsh landscape, but he is passionate about his country and knows so much about its history. Every day (we were with him for seven days) was a great adventure. John made the trip memorable in more ways than I can count. He is incredibly respectful, reliable, and dependable. More than that, though, he is one of the most positive people I have ever met. Charming, kind, fun, funny, and overall a complete joy to be with. I recommend Celticos fully. You will be sad to leave Wales because you will be leaving a new friend!
5 star tour with Celticos!
We had a fantastic tour with John! He was punctual, thoughtful, helpful, knowledgeable, and a prompt communicator. Prior to our trip, I had many questions about accommodations and transportation; he provided great recommendations. At the end of the day, he was kind enough to gift us some delicious Welsh treats. We all highly recommend Celticos!
Wales With John
Well guided tour of North Wales. Talking history about the country. Visited former Welsh castles which were conquered by the Norman invaders. Visits to quaint villages and sampled local cuisine. We deviated from our itinerary to the recommended destinations of John, our highly educated driver and tour guide.
Definitely recommend
I had an amazing three days touring with John. He’s friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible. I definitely recommend reaching out to him.
Wales with the best tour guide
Great day exploring Wales with John! We only had one day on a cruise stop and are so happy we booked this private tour. He kept it fluid and we got to see so much with spur of the moment stops when we expressed an interest. We even took a short hike up to a lake in Snowdonia. We visited South Stack lighthouse, looked for puffins, visited Roman building remains, Menai bridge, the walled/castle town of Conway, Caernarfon Castle, and even learned some Welsh. Fun day with a bit of everything. John is a knowledgeable and fun guy!
A town that has it all.
Visited my friends Grandson who mis studying at the University. Stayed at the Travelodge just outside town. Bangor is rich in history being the birthplace of education in Wales. There are eateries to serve every taste and budjet from small bispoke cafes to A-La-Cart restaurants via Weatherspoons and Macdonalds. There is plenty for those who love the arts including theatre, cinema and galeries.
It is a good centre for exploring Anglesey, Snowdonia and the Welsh North East coast. We are looking forward to our next visit.

A perfect experience and amazing host
The experience on this tour with John was outstanding. His attention to detail and connection with us was so lovely.
We took a half day tour, in fact the tour lasted for over 5 hours, around North Wales. John explained all the areas he took us to, he gave us as much time as we needed at the stops we made and gave us a brilliant personalised experience. He took us to the places he knew we would want to see and when we requested some different places he obliged. Nothing was too much for John. Even purchased some Snowdonia cheese for us.

John did a private driving tour for two American couples. We traveled in North Wales for three days! He is knowledgeable about the country, the villages, the landscapes. We definitely would recommend him.
A Glimpse into my Welsh heritage
As soon as John picked up our group of five up in Crewe, I knew we were in for a wonderful adventure. John was friendly, kind, professional and knowledgeable. Our tour was a custom tour and we had a great mix of history, castles, iconic landmarks and scenery. As a bonus, we learned a bit of Welsh. ‘diolch yn fair iawn’
Wales Adventure with Family & Friends
The entire process of planning and then touring with John went so smoothly. He took my rough wishlist and turned it into an amazing 4-day adventure! We visited a variety of places in Wales between Llandudno, Snowdonia, and Cardiff. This trip exceeded my expectations!
Wonderful relaxing time with John throughout Wales
John introduced us to wales, he picked us up at Crewe at the train station and we were off on our Welch adventure. Stayed in a wonderful hotel on the Irish Sea where Winston Churchill visited, then on to castles and beautiful villages. We visited Swallow falls Snowdonia, the book capitol of the world. We stayed in Montgomery and wine tasted at Kerry Vale winery, on an old Roman fort site.
Well guided adventure! John is an excellent driver, polite , caring and will create a wonderful adventure.
Thank you John!

Wonderful memories to last a lifetime
Our experience with John Pritchard and Celticos was absolutely spectacular, giving us a lifetime of wonderful memories. I was interested in setting up three days of touring North Wales, returning each day to Llandudno which was our base of lodging. I gave John a list of the things we most wanted to do, specifically the castles of the "Iron Ring"... he took our list and quadrupled it with amazing places to visit such as Penmon Point, that village with the insanely long name, the Nant Gwrtheyrn Welsh cultural center, Snowdonia National Park... the list goes on, and even though they were event-filled days, we never once felt rushed or harried by the schedule. We had time to explore at our leisure, including some wonderful little places for lunch. All the while John kept up the pleasant banter with historical information and cultural references, including how to say some basic, PG-approved Welsh terms. The only negative is that the trip had to end at some point!
We are very grateful to John for his expertise, his congeniality and superior driving skills. I look forward to touring with him again in the future and would give 10 stars if I could!
Fabulous week tour in Wales. Five stars!!!
We spent a week exploring Wales with John and it was absolutely terrific. We've traveled a good bit and this is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. John is delightful and super professional. He has great pre-trip communications and worked with us on an itinerary that included two afternoons of golf for my husband. His love and enthusiasm for his native land really shines through and you get to see places that most tourists would never find on their own. We really appreciated not having to worry about driving and just sitting back and enjoying the spectacular scenery. He is so knowledgeable about history and the sites you visit...not to mention just great fun! We would definitely recommend you use John and Celticos if you are planning a trip to Wales. Diolch, John!!!
Great tour of Wales!
They didn't enjoy their day nearly as much as we did.
Trusting someone you don't know to get you back to the cruise ship on time feels like a bit of a gamble, but from the consistent and easy communication we had with John in advance of our tour, the positive online reviews, and also immediately when we met him, this concern was put to rest. John was well aware of the time and kept us in good shape all day, so rest assured you are in good hands.
And... it was an amazing tour! We packed a lot into about 6.5 - 7 hours! We saw a beautiful mountain pass in Snowdonia, Beddgellert - a stunning Welsh town, lots of heather (I had always wanted to see it), the Menai bridge, Swallow Falls, the town with the longest name, Conway Castle and South Stack lighthouse. Each site was incredibly beautiful. Wish we could have had longer at many of the spots!
John was a knowledge and friendly tour guide. He totally adapted the tour to what we were looking for. His vehicle was comfortable and reliable. He found great places for bathroom and lunch / snacks. All of our needs were met perfectly. And - we really enjoyed meeting John!
We would highly recommend Celticos and John Pritchard!
Wonderful tour of a beautifulPlace
We had a great tour with John. Absolutely fell in love with Wales…thanks to John! The places he took us were spectacular and so scenic. John was entertaining, knowledgeable and fun. Would VERY highly recommend.
Wonderful tour in beautiful Wales
It was such an amazing day trip that John guided. He shared so much history and information of his native land with passion and care that made our first time in the beautiful northern wales very special. Thank you, John!
A truly memorable experience of Wales
It was wonderful to travel around whilst John shared such helpful pieces of information, stories and history. John goes the extra mile for all who travel with him. We loved it and are so thankful for our time in Wales
Five Stars for Celticos
John of Celticos was amazing. He arranged for us to visit the family homestead in Wales. Having never been to this small community, he scouted it out beforehand and made arrangements with the current owner for us to visit. He was flexible and was able to change our itinerary on the fly. Initially I thought the price was high, but when I divided it my the four travelers, it was a bargain. I recommend him highly.
Fun and worry-free travel!
We are grateful to John Pritchard of Celticos for making our time in North Wales so memorable.
He communicated with us before we left home, devising an itinerary ideally suited to our interests. Always prompt, responsive and cheerful, he gave us four full days of worry-free touring, picking us up, driving us all over the countryside and sharing historical and cultural gems along the way.
It was a pleasure to leave the driving and planning to a professional; we were free to take it all in without being distracted by new traffic patterns or confusing GPS directions. John also knows the best ice cream, pastry and pub lunch locations in North Wales and is fun to be with as well.
We highly recommend John and Celticos to anyone searching for a great tour.

Efficient, proactive, and outstanding service from start to end.
Efficient, proactive, and outstanding service from start to end. If you’re looking to travel and explore Wales, it just makes sense to do it with a local. John went above and beyond helping us plan our trip by not only recommending places to visit for our itinerary but also giving great tips and company - the ice cream shop and the cold dip after our hike to Snowdon was an epic experience. Honorable mention to Adam, nice car! It was a 4-day trip and everyday was a highlight. Diolch, Celticos!
Had a wonderful tour!
Had a wonderful tour! Friendly, knowledgeable guide, and learned a great deal. John was very flexible for us, both in terms of our desired pick-up and drop-off locations and times, but also in his ability to adapt quickly based on weather conditions to ensure we had a great itinerary. Clean, comfortable vehicle, safe driving, warm welcome, personable approach. He made our short stay in Wales very special and memorable! Absolutely recommend!

My daughter and I were absolutely delighted with our exploration of northern Wales with John Pritchard. He accommodated our schedule and needs beautifully with personalized service. Despite rather nasty weather for much of our day with him, he rolled with it and provided a wonderful tour, a huge amount of historical information, and great Welsh music - plus delicious, fresh milk right off the farm! If you're planning a trip to Wales, Celticos is definitely the way to enjoy it. I wholeheartedly recommend Celticos!
My sister and her husband had gone on a week-long tour with…
My sister and her husband had gone on a week-long tour with John from Celticos in September of 2023 and highly recommended that we use him. We hired John to pick us up in Manchester and drive us to Bangor. He was worth every penny. It was so nice to not have to drive ourselves when we were jet lagged and tired, in a new city, and not used to driving on the left side of the road. He was on time, communicated before hand multiple times including a phone call as well as texting the day before. The van was perfect. He is so easy to talk to. He was informative about the area as well as the history of the area. He is quite knowledgable. We also hired John for one day of taking us to see the houses my ancestors lived in. It was great having him show us as I don't know how we would have found these places otherwise. The weather wasn't very great so we planned a shorter day over two days instead of one. Honestly, we got a lot more tour guiding than we had planned on. We were so, so grateful because by that point in the trip the driving in Wales had just exhausted us and caused so much stress. John took us the second day to Snowdonia and was a fantastic guide! He knows so much and he is really good at knowing what people want to see. Having a tour guide was worth it to us. Those days with John were the best days of our two weeks in Wales. I can't recommend him enough.
My sister and I hired Celticos to take us to visit the home…
My sister and I hired Celticos to take us to visit the home of our grandfather in a remote Welsh village in the mountains. John's enthusiasm and expertise made our visit to the land of our grandparents exciting and memorable. John went above and beyond what any tour professional would do to make our experience the best it could be. Most impressive was that he visited the home of my grandfather ahead of our arrival to confirm its location and to assure that our visit there would be welcome to the current owner. And when the day came and heavy rains were in the forecast, he adjusted our entire itinerary to be sure we’d get to this place (our ultimate destination) before roads became flooded possibly making the ancestral home inaccessible. That visit was amazing and we will be forever grateful for this extraordinary experience! John is the best!

Truly a memorable Wales trip - Celticos made it even more convenient for us throughout the entire trip. For bigger group like us, it can be more chaotic and tricky if not properly planned. We’ve never felt being rushed out and dragged unprepared in every place we’ve been through and all of the places we’ve been toured around have been truly exceptional and breathtaking. They are spot-on for memories. I bet only the locals know it better - truly John and Adam have been amazing. The Snowdon hike is the highlight for me as I have been wanting hard to do it in this lifetime. The experience is locked in my core memory and I am just humbled with the majectic views at the mountain top and just the thought that we’ve successfully done the summit is just crazy and thrilling.

We spent 2 days touring with John and couldn’t be more impressed.Even before we got there he helped arrange a number of things and was keen to tailor our experience around the things we were interested in. And having got there he willingly made changes to our itinerary and helped make our visit a memorable one.As well as being accomodating John is a great person to spend two days in a car with. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough.

We were a party of 9 and our 4-day trip through North Wales has been nothing short of absolute joy and incredible experience - thanks to Celticos Tours led by John Pritchard! From the beginning of our trip where we were picked up in London until our last day, John (together with Adam), made sure we had the best experience. They took us to spots only the locals would know, brought us to the best pub, and drove us to the most scenic spots in North Wales. John even went the extra mile as to suggest a place to stay, restaurants to eat, and sights to see when we could’ve just done those ourselves! We had the best time of our lives and we couldn’t thank John and Adam enough for the experience. They gave us a five-star service and didn’t drop the ball once. I strongly recommend Celticos if you want to experience the best of North Wales!
Amazing Trip to Wales
Our 4-day tour with John Pritchard was truly a memorable trip. From the initial contact to follow up by email and phone we planned a jammed packed 4 days. John’s suggestions for stops based on our discussions were excellent. His knowledge is vast and he went above and beyond to help us select accommodation and dining venues as well. The planning of our trip was only exceeded by meeting him in person. We were so impressed by his attention and enthusiasm for Wales and it’s history. Our chance mention of our interest in the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas was followed by a trip to the seaside where we’re able to view his writing shed. We were suitably impressed!
Our tour flew by filled with ancient castles, mountains, seaside towns and waterfalls. By the end of 4 days we felt as if we had known John for a lifetime. His efforts to teach us Welsh made the days all the more enjoyable. I am not sure we did the Welsh language justice but we did try!
We can say without hesitation that we highly recommend John and Celticos Tours as the #1 tour company for Wales. Our expectations were exceeded. Thank you John.
A search for ancestors.
John Pritchard was all I asked for and more. My experience was so special and thanks to John the genealogist he recommended was equally wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about my visit to the Snowdonia region.
Family history North Wales
I had John Pritchard as my driver and I have to give him credit for getting around on those "narrow" Welsh roads ! We don't have those type of roads where I live in New York, USA. He was very friendly and knowledgeble of North Wales where I was doing my family history. I even got to practice a little Welsh on him !!! I would highly recommend John and Celticos for your next trip to Wales. Lynne Roberts
Excellent Planning and Communication!
John was not only knowledgeable, considerate, punctual, and organized; he was also very generous about helping us with other sections of the trip which we were planning on our own and he was not going to receive compensation. He has excellent communication skills and follow-up. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.
Do yourself a favour
John was amazing. Two full days of touring and changing our mind and being readily accommodated made for a memorable experience. Plus he is a nice guy. Would highly recommend.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!
Through Celticos, led by John Pritchard, we were able to explore the wondrous gems of North Wales. We have been provided a personalised 4-day trip itinerary where we were able to visit different places of the region - lakes, scenic villages, pubs, castles, and of course, Snowdonia. John, together with Adam, ensured our safety from picking us up from London; touring us from one spot to another; and driving us back to London. Words are not enough how perfect our trip was. Celticos did an exceptional service to us. John and Adam were always on time, flexible when needed, informative, and most of all, very friendly. I definitely recommend Celticos to anyone who wants to discover the astounding places North Wales can offer.

A great guide to help us make the most of our stay on Anglesey
For our short stay in Anglesey we were given a recommendation to contact Celticos to book a private tour, that is how we made contact with John. He helped us arrange an appropriate itinerary to suit our interests, and was very responsive to our needs. On the day of the tour John was happy to improvise and change the itinerary to match the changing weather conditions. We found John very easy to deal with, an excellent and knowledgeable guide and very good company. We would highly recommend Celticos and John.
Fabulous private tour.
We wanted to get the most out of stay in North Wales so we booked this private tour. It was amazing. Our tour guide was from the local area and gave us a lot of information and color about the local history. We booked the one day tour and were able to pack a lot into the day without feeling rushed. Highly recommend visiting the area and using Celticos as your tour guide?
A Great Tour of Wales
Our Celticos guide was very knowledgeable, a local resident of Anglesey, and his transportation vehicle comfortable. Couple that with his great driving skills which is a must on Welsh roads! He knows the history and details of Wales well, and in this trip especially Anglesey, and Snowdonia, two famous parts of Wales. And, he is happy to share of this knowledge. His interpersonal listening skills also make for a very enjoyable and learning trip. I highly recommend Celticos.
Celticos is the best!

Family trip to tour Wales
Went above and beyond to make sure our family was able to see and do everything we hoped. Took us to some fantastic locations we would have never found on our own which really helped us see more of the Welsh culture. Willingness to be flexible and accommodate changes throughout the day made it seem more like we were traveling with a friend than a guide!
Don't think twice, just call John!
We had an amazing 2-week trip, and special shout-out to John. My parents were visiting me from Qatar for my graduation, so I wanted to take them all around the UK. We started from London, then went to Wales, where I had booked a 3-day trip with John. He took us to the best places in Wales - Snowdonia, various castles, the aqueduct, Penmon Point, and Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, among others.
By the end of the third day, my parents and I had grown so close to John and felt very comfortable, so I asked him if he could accompany us for the entire trip in his Mercedes, for a good deal. He immediately agreed, and from there, we went to Manchester, the Lake District, Edinburgh, the Scottish Highlands, Loch Lomond, Loch Ness, and, finally, the major highlight of the trip was going to Northern Ireland on a ferry. It was an amazing experience. To be honest, we enjoyed the trip completely only because of John. If he hadn’t been there, the trip would’ve sucked. So guys, if you are planning a trip, don’t think twice, just call John!
Snowdonia and Anglesey with John Pritchard - Excellent Tour!
Our family spent a wonderful day with John exploring Snowdonia and Anglesey. The sights were breathtaking and John’s knowledge of the area and its history was outstanding. We were particularly pleased with the way he was able to incorporate several sites of personal significance to us into the tour. It was a totally awesome experience.
Our Perfect Tour of North Wales
Being that both of our ancestors came from the Snowdonia area of North Wales, this is a place my husband and I always wanted to visit. Finding Celticos online and working with John after he answered our request for information I knew we had found the perfect person to fulfill our wishes. Talking and texting with him confirmed both his love for and knowledge about the area. From the moment he picked us up at Heathrow to his dropping us off near the Stafford train station we were treated to a personal two day tour of the area around Snowdonia. By the time we parted ways we felt like we had known John forever and would highly recommend him and Celticos for those who want to visit North Wales.
Day tour
John took us on a fabulous drive in Sowdonia National Park. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. Thoroughly recommend.
Snowdonia with blue sky and a great guide.
John took us on a great day tour: we had always wanted to visit Portmeirion. Such a great drive through beautiful valleys and green pastures. Views of Snowdonia and we were blessed with good weather too!
Would recommend without hesitation. Great knowledge, good company, considerate and thoughtful. Thank you John and Celticos.
Cemaes Bay, Anglesey ancestor tour
We were finally able to make our trip to Wales happen! We found Celticos on the internet. John worked with us prior to our trip, helping us plan our “ancestry tour” and introduced us to Keith who was able to fill in some missing pieces on my tree. My goal was to visit homes where my ancestors once lived. The trip met far more than my expectations. Everyone was so kind and welcoming! John was fantastic at finding churches and homes, maneuvering the tightest “roads” pointing out so many interesting facts along the way. For me to see the home my great great grandmother lived in, to find her grave at the little church nearby, to see the church where so many ancestors were baptized married and buried still gives me goosebumps. Thank you John and Keith for helping this journey become a reality.
John is awesome!
John was great. Very knowledgeable and shared with us everything we needed or wanted to know. Amazing tour!
10/10!!!!! Thank you John!
I cannot recommend this tour enough and John was the best tour guide we have ever had!! We spent 5 days traveling around Wales and only wished we had more time. John was so incredibly helpful- he found us the most amazing views, cutest towns, best food recommendations, and was constantly adjusting the itinerary based on what we were showing interest in. We would have never made it to all these special and hidden sites without his help. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing the natural beauty and quaint villages of Wales. - especially the north western region! Thank you John!
Wales with John
I’m a frequent traveler and have had a lot of tour guides. But this tour and John were hands down, one of my favorites ever. It was like a very kind family member was taking us to all his favorite local spots. I feel like we got a great overview, and can’t wait to go back and explore more of the country with him. Thank you for everything John. See you soon hopefully.
Wales in a Day!!
John was our tour guide and we couldn’t have wished for a better time! He showed us all over Wales and went above and beyond our expectations. We saw more than we ever dreamed of seeing…… from Castles to waterfalls to the most amazing villages. We can’t say enough about our time in Wales with John. He’s the reason we will return!! We’ll done!!
Outstanding experience exploring Anglesey
My parents and I traveled to Wales in September 2023 with a large tour group and we wanted to spend time on our own on exploring Anglesey. We hoped to visit a specific farm to visit in Llanfflewyn, where we have ancestral links, and a list of 3 or 4 other general locations in the local area that we knew only by vague description. We knew we needed to find private transportation and a guide with extensive local knowledge and are glad to have found John, as he provided both expertly. All our expectations were exceeded.
We spent a half day visiting Anglesey with John and were very pleased. John was communicative as we set up our tour, arrived promptly in a very comfortable and clean car, and was friendly throughout. We were grateful for John’s abundant knowledge of Welsh geography and culture, and especially for his intimate familiarity with Anglesey. I will add that his curiosity and enthusiasm for tracking down places of importance to our family made us feel a unique kind of welcome that we have seldom encountered in our many travels.
Wonderful private tour
Wasn’t happy with options for bus tours. So glad that I found Celticos. John worked with us on an itinerary that maximized our day seeing mountains, sea cliffs, a waterfall, plus so much more. We strolled along a river winding through a picturesque village and had warm Welsh cakes waiting when we were done. There was even time for a meal in a 16th century pub! It was amazing how much we were able to see and do.
Castle tour of Wales
We had a two day tour of northern Wales, including the Iron Ring of castles. John Pritchard, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and customized the tour to our interests. They also provided transportation to our hotel from Shrewsbury when train travel was unavailable due to track maintenance and then to Bangor to for the train trip back to London. Highly recommend.
Awesome Day Trip
We had a fabulous day trip with John. Excellent communication via email/phone/text before we arrived. John made a custom day trip for us and even on the day we switched things up a bit. He grew up on Anglesey, so is very knowledgeable about the area and will take you to his favorite spots. We wished we had booked more than one day as there is so much to see here. If you want an awesome guide, book with John.
Wonderful day tour of Holyhead !
John was outstanding! We had the most wonderful tour of Holyhead . John was very communicative. We found him right away off our cruise ship. He planned a wonderful, full day for my husband and I. We felt like we spent the day with a good friend who was excited to show us all the beauty of where he lived. He was knowledgeable, personable, down to earth and professional. Holyhead private tours are hard to come by and we felt like we hit the jackpot and got the best. Thank you for helping to make our trip memorable!
Great Tour of North Wales
We have a wonderful trip around beautiful North Wales with Celticos. Castles, cathedrals, villages, national park, farms, seashore, we visited it all. Very professional, very knowledgeable guide. I highly recommend.
Wonderful service
Adam and John took care of us beautifully. 5 Stars! Can't say enough good things about the service. Went out of their way to accommodate the 6 of us.
Snowdonia tour
Adam is an excellent and knowledgeable guide about Snowdonia. He anticipated our stops and worked with our needs, especially as we were travelling with children.
We spent a lovely day touring northern Snowdonia and wouldn’t hesitate recommending Adam and Celticos to anybody visiting Wales and looking for a bespoke tour!
An unforgettable adventure
Our two days travelling the Snowdonia region and Angelsey with Alwyn was beyond fabulous. Alwyn created a thorough itinerary and made sure we saw all of the highlights. His knowledge of the area and it's history was impressive. He was thoughtful about the weather and how it might impact what we were able to do and made adjustments where needed- it was seamless. He was also tremendously flexible and willing to work around our ferry schedule which we really appreciated. Alwyn is a true professional- courteous, attentive, engaging, and a very safe driver. We would never have been able to have this type of experience on our own. Thank you Alwyn - we will be back!!
Wonderful tour of Wales
A couple friends and I spent 8 days with Alwin traveling throughout Wales and had a fantastic time. From Tintern Abbey to the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia, Anglesey and beyond, he was incredibly knowledgeable and never seemed to tire of our endless questions. Alwin’s historical commentary provided context and meaning to the places we visited which was especially helpful when it came to castles and religious sites - and we had quite a few on our list. Thanks to Alwin they didn’t all just blend into one another. He had great suggestions and took us to some beautiful spots that were off the beaten path that we never would have found on our own. If we are lucky enough to return, we will use Celticos again and can recommend them highly!
Wonderful private tours in Wales
We recently did 2 full day tours with Celticos in Wales. The 1st day was with Alwyn in the Snowdonia National Park and the 2nd day was with Carl in Anglesey. We were delighted with our tours and highly recommend Celticos. They took the time to really find out what we wanted to see, and also gave us extra advice for the following days when we were to be driving ourselves in Wales. Alwyn and Carl were very pleasant to spend the days with, and very knowledgeable about the places and history of the areas.
Norman Castle tour
My husband and I booked a 2 day tour specifically to see the Norman Castles of North Wales, and based ourselves in Bangor. Carl arrived bright and early the first day with an itinerary tailored to our needs. Not only did he ensure that we had enough time to explore the major castles and attractions, but he found time to show us some of the lesser known (but just as interesting) historical sites, e.g. the dovecote. Carl is personable and his knowledge of Welsh history and folklore is quite remarkable. 2 great days!
Wonderful and informative tour
Alwyn gave us a very lovely tour down the Conwy Valley and back up past the slate quarries, stopping at beautiful scenic areas. He is very knowledgeable about the area and was a pleasure to spend the day with. I hope we can come back for another tour.
Day Trip from Cruise Ship
We hired Celticos for a day trip from the Holyhead port while on a cruise around Great Britain. The trip maximized what we could see versus the packaged excursions offered by the cruise line (Princess) at a price less than the full day private tour offered through the cruise. Our driver, Carl, was an excellent guide, knowledgeable, flexible and thoroughly enjoyable. A Welsh native and Gaelic speaker, Carl was able to offer a local flavor to the trip, while explaining some history and the meaning of some of the place names. We started at Caer Gybi fort, near the port, stopped at South Stack lighthouse, made the obligatory pass through Llanfair (the world's longest town name), photo stop at Menai Strait, made an optional stop at the National Slate Museum (don't scoff, it has some beautiful scenery and is interesting for the history), stopped for lunch in Diornwig overlooking the beautiful countryside, toured Caernarfon Castle, stopped at Beaumaris, all within our one day stop on the cruise. It was a fantastic day, and well worth the additional cost associated with a private tour. Cruise ship excursions would be limited to some subset of the above.
Wee were picked up on time and made hot back to the ship well in advance of the all aboard time. Highly recommended.
Most highly recommended! Personalized tours, friendly and informed guide
Our guide was.most informed, humorous, and friendly. In addition, I had recently suffered a fractured pelvic bone and Alwyn was very solicitous and helpful to me. This tour was.one of the highlights of our month long stay in the U.K., absolutely! As I said, the tours are.personalized. Alwyn asked first what our interests were and designed the tour around them. Just a wonderful day! Had a very tasty cup of tea and a Welsh cake at The Ugly House...can suggest a visit there to others!
Excellent touring company
Had 4 wonderful days with Alwyn showing my sisters and I the Snowdonia area and Brecon Beacons. Such a beautiful country, and hearing about it from a Welsh-speaking local added to the enjoyment. Appreciated the review of our plans, the daily agenda updates, and the long days. My original planning did not allow for weekend traffic at a resort area (we were blessed with beautiful weather), so good adjustments were made. Wished we had stayed for longer in every area. Highlights for me included Anglesey, Conwy, Trefriw Woolen Mill, Slate Mine, rugby game, castles, and tales of the Welsh history. Such a beautiful country (it's about the size of New Jersey, my home state).
10 Fantastic Days in Amazing Wales -- and with great weather, too!
Having a fondness for Wales and after traveling there many times in the past, some friends encouraged us to plan a trip in Wales and to show them some of our favorite places. This time we decided to hire a driver so we could enjoy the tour without driving! We found Celticos and worked with Liz Davies, the very competent, office manager and assistant to Alwyn Griffith, owner and tour escort. We found that Celticos was exactly what we were looking for. After months of email contacts, Liz and Alwyn worked up an itinerary for us.
We stayed in our favorite village in Snowdonia, Betws-y-coed, for seven nights. Each evening Alwyn would suggest a plan for the next day and he would pick us up and drive us to both favorite locations as well as several delightful new places, most of which, despite our familiarity with Wales, that we never knew about. We loved visiting the new places and seeing beautiful Wales through the eyes of one who lived there and knew all the roads. Then, after a week in North Wales, Alwyn drove us to south Wales where we stayed in a hotel for three nights. He intervened on our behalf when there were a few issues with the hotel that needed addressing. While he is from north Wales, Alwyn knows the south of Wales very well too.
Alwyn’s expert driving and knowledge relieved much of the burden from us. Liz’s efforts in making arrangements led to many email exchanges and we felt like we knew her well before we arrived. We have nothing but the highest praise for Alwyn and Liz and for Celticos. It was a 100% honest and reliable small tour company and we would highly recommend it without hesitation. You will be treated well!
Amazing Wales
I went with my family for the first time to Wales and thanks to Alwyn we had a spectacular experience.
In only 3 days he took us everywhere to discover his beautiful country explaining the history and the secrets behind the catlles.
if you want to enjoy the beauty of Wales nothing better than Celticos with Alwyn.
thank you!!!!
Fantastic day in Wales with private Celticos tour
We pre-arranged for a private tour with Celticos for the day our ship was docked in Wales. This was an easy seamless experience done online. The reviews we read previously were all correct. We were so lucky to have Carl, as our driver and guide. He was professional, thoughtful and very knowledgeable. I love that one can totally customize your day to your interests. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. Snowdonia is truly awesome, not a place to be missed. We could easily have spent the whole day here walking and viewing the scenery. I was also interested in seeing Caernarfon Medieval castle. We were in a small village for a walk and serendipitously fell upon a church flower show which Carl took us to see, just charming. We had a lovely lunch at a building that used to be a church, we saw and learned about the history of slate in Wales, and watched a live blacksmith demonstration. All in all, a lovely and interesting day. If you book your tour in Wales with Celticos, you will be glad you did.
Fantastic 1-day tour of Wales
We spent a wonderful day with Alwyn touring northern Wales and Snowdonia National Park. Alwyn picked us up at our lodging and based on our inputs mapped out a path through northern Wales and Snowdonia. We were a group of 5 including my wife's sister who was in a wheel chair. Alwyn was very considerate and accommodating to our wheel chair logistics and provided an entertaining and knowledgeable dialog to go along with the beautiful Welsh countryside. I can't imagine a finer way to experience northern Wales!
Wonderful experience
This was the perfect service, and Carl was the perfect guide. We thoroughly appreciated his knowledge, good humor, and ability to customize our experience. Now that we’ve seen the roads, we can’t imagine doing the driving ourselves. It was wonderful to relax while we toured the spectacular castles, coastline and attractions of northern Wales.
The best way to tour Wales!
My wife and I spent four wonderful days touring North West Wales with CELTICOS. We learnt a lot about Welsh history and culture and enjoyed spectacular views around Snowdonia, the coast and countryside. Alwyn and Carl are exceptionally well informed and pleasant tour guides and we highly recommend their services.
Best day of our trip!
Me and my family had the pleasure of meeting and being guided by Alwyn during our Holyhead port stop. He was very informative and fun to be with! He knew exactly what we liked to see and he delivered! The whole family are still talking about our day in Wales and how much we enjoyed it! I highly, highly recommend Celticos if you're in the area! Thank you so much Alwyn!

Awesome Day in Anglesey
What a great day our group of 6 friends had with Alwyn during our day in port. We do not like to do the ship tours, and Celticos provided the very best private tour for our group for the time we had. We learned so much about the history, saw the beautiful sights of Anglesey, and Alwyn took us to areas that were not part of a large group tour which we so enjoyed. He explained ancient history of the area, and what incredible views we had. It was a perfect day. None of us had ever visited Wales before, but we are so glad we had the opportunity to visit. I would HIGHLY recommend Celticos to anyone visiting Wales for a private tour. From the very first contact with Liz and all her help and answering all my questions, to making our reservations, it was so very easy. We could not have asked for a better day, and many thanks for an awesome visit to this beautiful country.
Snowdons visit Snowdon
Spent 2 full days touring with Carl. He’s very knowledgeable about Northern Wales. He customized our tour with a good combination of walking and sightseeing, hitting the spots we requested to see. Thanks Carl, it was a pleasure spending time with you, job well done.
Trip to Wales with 7 year old son
Just returned from Wales after a trip with my 7 year old son. Carl did a great job exploring with us and adapting the tours to my son's interests. It was a great trip. I highly recommend Wales as a destination trip and Carl and Celticos are great tour guides.
Superb, stress-free tour of magical North Wales
Hard to express how marvelous this experience was and how grateful we are to Alwyn for his deep knowledge, smooth driving and TLC. We trusted Celticos, followed their recommendations regarding hotels and left the itinerary entirely to Alwyn. The result was three perfect days of castles, coastline and company. We are already telling friends about this uncrowded, fascinating adventure and how easy, interesting and comfortable it was. Much affection and gratitude to Celticos and best of luck and happiness to all who are reading this review--emphatic thumbs up!
Touring in beautiful North Wales
THANK YOU to Alwyn for an absolutely wonderful tour of North Wales! We covered so much ground in three days, from the Llyn Peninsula all the way to Llangollen and many, many things in between. Alwyn was completely accommodating and made wonderful suggestions about how to maximize our time together. He really went out of his way to help us understand the history and culture of this beautiful area. As he got to know us a little more during our time together, he was able to add in stops that he knew we would love. We really appreciated that kindness and consideration.
It is obvious that Alwyn enjoys meeting new people from all over the world and sharing his love and knowledge of Wales with them. You will definitely enjoy your time with this wonderful guide, seeing some amazing sights.
Working with Liz to plan our trip was great too -- she was very responsive and helpful. The Celticos website is a treasure trove of information about suggested tour itineraries, but also about the area in general, accommodations, getting around, food, culture, etc. We found this really helpful when considering where we wanted to stay.
All in all, we very highly recommend Celticos -- they made our time in North Wales really memorable! Thank you!
W for Wow ,Wales,and Winner!
Three senior siblings had the great pleasure of being escorted throughout Wales with Alwyn for 5 days.
Since this beautiful country includes a great amount of our Heritage and none of us have ever been here, there was a lot riding on our tour.It could not have been better.
You expect knowledgable guides ,good vehicles and safe driving although you don't always get it all.Even better when your guide adapts to your schedules and wishes and makes it seamless. This includes dealing with mobility and hearing issues for members of your group and the usual dynamics and stress of travel with various experience levels.
I have been on travel tours with various length duration and group size on all seven continents over past two decades.
Celticos is as good as it gets and is a true value return for your investment.Recommend highly you see Wales and go with Celticos.
WOW WALES WINNER!!!
Amazing personalized tour!
We just returned from our trip to Wales, and the focus of the journey was an exploration of the Edwardian castles in North Wales. After doing some research, we elected to use Celticos as our tour guide company, as we wanted a laid back, stress free trip where we could just enjoy the sights.
Liz, the coordinator for Celticos, answered all of our questions before booking. She was courteous, and went above and beyond to recommend accommodations, gave advice on getting to our hotel from the airport, and in general provided a fantastic level of service.
On the first day of our journey we were met by our guide, Carl. He already had a planned itinerary, and from the word go was ready to make changes and tweaks to allow us to customize our trip however we saw fit. We decided to begin with the planned itinerary, and ended up following it close to the letter each day.
Carl is an encyclopedic guide, filled with knowledge and wonderful stories. He was also patient, and allowed us to do things at our own pace. In addition, he built in experiences we didn't realize we wanted to see, but can't imagine missing them now!
Of particular note, Carl would take note of little things mentioned off hand and then take time to incorporate these things into our trip. What an amazing way to really make our trip feel special.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Celticos if you are considering a guided experience in this area for your next vacation!
Perfect custom tour
My husband and I wanted to see some of the incredible castles in north Wales but we did not want to drive, and public transport looked like it would be somewhat limited. I looked into custom tours and Celticos stood out because they are specialists in the area. They provided us with a tour that perfectly suited our wants.
We chose our own hotel based on the information on their website. The website is a goldmine for planning. Our location near Caernarfon was central to the castles we wanted to visit. Liz was very helpful in putting together an outline of an itinerary for the time we were in Wales and the highlights we wanted to see. She then contacted our driver/guide, Alwyn, who provided further advice, which we gladly accepted.
From the day Alwyn picked us up at our hotel in Liverpool to the day he dropped us off at the train station in Warrington, we had a marvellous trip. Our main interest was medieval history and thus, the castles. Alwyn organized our days to efficiently see the sights but also put much of it in order to understand the chronological context. Our highlight castles were mostly built by King Edward I as he tried to conquer the Welsh in the late 13th century. As we travelled from Liverpool to our hotel in Wales, Alwyn stopped at one of the castles built by Edward as he was advancing in his war with Wales. We then saw some castles built after Edward had defeated the Welsh and was building fortifications to maintain his position and keep the conquered Welsh under control. Just our first day with Alwyn taught us so much more detail about the history of Wales that we had not known before.
Our next day was spent touring the beautiful Isle of Anglesey including Beaumaris Castle, another Edward I castle. Our third day was to the west to Caernarfon Castle, Edward I’s biggest castle, and Snowdonia National Park, where we marvelled at the scenery and varying views of Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales (and England). All along we learned more about the history of Wales but also a little about the Welsh language, which we heard spoken with some frequency. We included a stop at a slate quarry to learn more about the material and the industry which played a significant role in the area’s economy until recently.
Alwyn was a fount of knowledge about the area. We peppered him with lots of questions about history, flora and fauna, geology and the Welsh language; and he answered. He showed us lots of things we had no awareness of. He also had some pretty amusing stories.
He was also helped us with a restaurant reservation as we arrived on a bank holiday long weekend and failed to make a plan to take that into account.
Our final day was mainly spent getting us to a convenient train station to catch a direct train to Edinburgh. This turned out to be especially convenient for us as the Warrington station was very simple to navigate instead of going to Manchester, where I had thought to take a different direct train. Thanks to Alwyn’s advice against the big complicated Manchester station, our travel was very smooth.
I should also mention that not driving ourselves was one of the best ideas we started with. Some of the roads are very narrow, even for one vehicle, and many of the villages seem to permit parking which allows cars to park in the lane going one way as long as there is a lane going the other way; thus making a two lane road into a one lane road without warning. Even with Alwyn’s expert driving, every time we met a tour bus, I wanted to close my eyes.
Having Alwyn guide us also meant he knew where to stop when my husband decided he need lunch with some wine. If we didn’t have a driver, my husband would have had to skip the lunchtime wine—if we could have found a spot serving wine!
Throughout our time, Alwyn was very flexible and took care to accommodate my husband’s mobility limitations because of his knees. He knew which spots we might want to avoid because of too many stairs but also when my husband was feeling up to it, he took us on interesting little walks to see ancient Celtic ruins, Roman excavations and 12th century abbeys—all places we would not have known about. He also kept an eye to the weather, which had been expected to be rainy, but he organized our stops so that we pretty much avoided any rain while we were out of doors.
Our tour customized to perfection for us. If we had been on our own, we could not have learned so much and seen so many interesting things. We highly recommend a visit to north Wales and highly recommend Celticos if you want a carefree, memorable trip.
Found our family home and so much more!
The trip of a lifetime! With a little information I provided, Alwyn found our family grave yard and farm, as well as the area where our ancestors quarried for slate. He spent a wonderful day showing us the family sights and gave us so much information about the area, community, slate quarrying and so much more. We learned so much more than I could have found from doing research on my own. I very highly recommend Celticos and thank Alwyn from the bottom of my heart for everything!
Three Perfect Days in Wales
Carl is a special guy.
From the early planning stages, Carl helped us with every aspect of our trip. He did all the little things.
Based on what we (my wife and I) wanted to see, he helped us choose the correct city for us so we could get that Welsh experience we were after. He offered suggestions regarding accommodations based on our preferences and the experience we were looking for. We wound up in Caernarfon – stayed in a small pub in the heart of a walled city with castle right down the street – perfect for us.
Asked about trains to and from – he offered to get the tickets for us and send them – worked perfectly.
The itinerary he came up with based on our interests was spot on – we saw all the things we wanted to see and more - love those castles and walks through the country side - he delivered on all his promises.
Carl is a great guy-Enthusiastic – Flexible – Very knowledgeable – Easy to work with – Knows how to make your experience special – Fun to be around.
Our three days with Carl were the highlight of our trip to the UK - what a great time.
Highly recommend Carl.

Two days in northern Wales
Carl really went the extra mile to show us as much of northern Wales as possible in the very short two days we had with him! We saw beaches, lighthouses, castles, cathedrals, a slate quarry, authentic Welsh cows, and much of the rural countryside.
My husband and I were on our honeymoon and somehow Carl pulled some strings to get one of the slate craftsmen to cut a piece of slate into a heart for us. Truly such a special experience that we will remember forever, and will probably think about whenever we see slate anywhere!
I would highly recommend for folks specifically looking for flexibility in where the want to go--Celticos would also be good for a highly structured trip as well, but I think it's really rare to find a private tour that will let you "choose your own adventure" as you go, and that was a really great feature of our trip.
Tour Carl Mather, Celtico to ancestors homes, graves, and surrounding area/amazing/spellbound
My daughter arranged for she and I to visit our ancestors home in North Wales based on information my mother had provided from her trip 20 years ago. She found Celtico through an online search and ended up working with Carl. We could not have been happier with the result. We signed on for a full day with Carl. Through his research and knowledge of the area he helped us find and visit what is likely our former family farm. I was spellbound standing their looking out at what was likely my great great grandfathers home and farm. Additionally as a consequence of his research we visited a number of family graves. Couple this with Carl's engaging tour of the area along with a lovely lunch spot he suggested. Carl connected with us, had done his homework before we arrived and we could not believe all that we experienced during our day together. His ability to drop interesting facts into the day's conversation was so appreciated as we toured the area. Snowdonia was breath taking. At the end of the day I felt completely full. Not only from a busy day but my mind was full of key details that I wanted to remember to share with extended family. Highly recommended.

Great guides -- go the extra mile
Took two different trips one with Carl and one with Alwyn. Both were great. They were pleasant and accommodating and willing to change on the fly to tailor the trip to what we wanted to see. They were informative and interesting. It was clear they love their country and enjoyed showing it off. My family had a great time. Thank you. A+++ tour guides.
Expert guide/driver, responsive to all our interests
Carl drove us (a couple) for 7 days enabling us to see sights ranging from the very ancient (neolithic burial grounds and standing stones), medieval castles, slate mining, ruined abbeys, stunning sea and landscapes through to modern charming towns.
Even in cold and windy weather it was thoroughly enjoyable, and the weather made many of the places more atmospheric and dramatic. Carl's thoughtfulness and care of us enhanced the whole experience.
We could not recommend Celticos more highly.
Castles and old church's
I did a two day tour with Alwyn. Liz, the woman who sets up the tours asked me what I'm most interested in seeing. I told her castles and old church's. Alwyn is a fantastic tour guide! He is extremely knowledgeable about the history of all the place we visited. In addition, he is quite knowledgeable about the history and current events of Wales in particular, as well as the UK in general. I highly recommend him!
Seven Day Private Tour of Wales with Celticos
As two couples, we traveled on the seven day tour of Wales with Alwyn Griffith. It was a wonderful and very detailed look at Welsh culture, history and natural beauty. We visited many significant historical monuments from Caernarfon Castle to St. Davids Cathedral....with most of the rest of the coastal castles along the way. We saw hidden coves and beaches several groups of ancient standing stones and burial mounds most over 4000 years old.
We started in the north in Caernarfon and Snowdonia national park and ended in Cardiff and Chepstow in the south near the border with England. It was a delightful trip with a fantastic guide. Alwyn had many interesting stories about places we never knew existed. He was very accommodating and customized the tour to fit our interests. He even organized a side trip to visit the place where the great grandparents of one of our group were married before they emigrated to the US.
We all would highly recommend Alwyn, Celticos and the entire staff. If you are looking for a unique experience to take an in-depth look at Wales and a trip that you can customize if you like, you would be very pleased with their service. They also have set tours that they describe on their website that focus on specific areas in Wales.
Great Day in Snowdonia
Alwyn was our guide for the day in Snowdonia. We had an itinerary worked out to visit Snowdonia and the surrounding area. Alwyn was a wealth of information! He provided so much information about the history of Wales that made the places we visited come alive. We wanted to see Caernarfon Castle, which was amazing. We also learned about the slate industry in Wales and visited the Slate Museum. It was an outstanding day and gave us a wonderful picture of Wales and its people.
First Visit to Wales
My husband and I just spend two full days in North Wales. We wanted to see as much as possible, and only had a vague idea of what to look for. We booked two days of touring with Celticos. Alwyn was our guide. After checking with us to see what we definitely wanted to see, he made some suggestions, and we were off. He is very knowledgeable about Wales, and the history of Wales and could answer just about any question we put to him. He took us to so many places we would have never even known about, and really gave us a good overview of everything.
It was a wonderful way to see the area, and we both highly recommend the company and Alwyn.
Memorable private tour of Anglesey and Snowdonia with Alwin
My husband and I booked a day tour of Anglesey and Snowdonia with Celticos on our visit to Anglesey last week. From the moment we made enquiries on their website, Liz made the process easy by being prompt, informative and helping with our vague requirements. Payment through Paypal was easy too.
But Alwyn, our guide took the experience to another level. He met us at our hotel well before the scheduled time of 9.30am and came up with an itinerary we were very happy with. We visited a very interesting ancient monastery, church and dovecote in Penmon on the east side of Anglesey, a beach with pilots’ cottages and a slate museum and quarry in Snowdonia, and they all came alive with his stories on history, culture and local connections. Along the way he pointed to castles, stately homes and other interesting places we could visit on our own in the following days, which was very useful. Alwyn took us to places off the beaten track we would never have found on our own, driving along narrow lanes and stopping at many scenic spots where we did short walks around streams, mini hikes and beach walks. Lunch at the Ugly House (a beautiful and unique cottage made of stone walls with a massive fireplace) was an experience and Alwin introduced us to Bara Brith (a traditional Welsh tea bread) which we have become fans of. We were shown spectacular views of Snowdon from many different mountain passes. Alwin even marked on a map the best beaches on the Anglesey Island to visit on our own which we diligently did. Through his knowledge of the region and wonderful stories he made us engage with the Welsh culture, so we want to know more and will definitely be back for more of his delightful knowledge and expertise. We highly recommend Celticos. Thank you Alwin for a truly amazing day.
Day Tour with Alwyn
During a cruise around Great Britain we had one day in Wales. We (family, 8 people) booked a private day tour with Alwyn. He was an amazing tour guide. He was so knowledgeable and kind. He explained and showed us many things that you do not find in a standard travel guidebook. We've done many trips like that in the past all over the world. The one with Alwyn was one of the best ones we've ever had!
Thanks Alwyn! Claudia on behalf of the family.
Excellent day tour of northern Wales
My husband, daughter and I booked a day tour of Northern Wales and had the most wonderful time with Carl as our driver. Carl took all of our interests into account and put together an absolutely marvelous itinerary of castles, natural scenery, and even the Slate Museum thrown in. This was our first visit to Wales and Carl made it so memorable. Definitely the highlight of our vacation through the British Isles. Wonderful stories, history, and insights into the area. Turns out our daughters are the same age and studying same subject in college. Next time, we'd love to meet her too! Thank you so much for far exceeding our expectations!
Fantastic way to see North Wales!
My husband and I recently stayed in Conwy, North Wales and were looking for a great tour of Snowdonia National Park- one that would capture some highlights, but also not be a run of the mill, tourist-y trip. We got exactly what we wanted with this tour! Carl arrived at our rental house about 15 mins before the start of our trip, to arrange with us what we would most like to see.
We got under way, and had a great time from 9:30-5:30, seeing all kinds of different things. We started close to Conwy with a visit to a very interesting (and very old) church, visited a proper Welsh castle, had tea and a scone at the Ugly House and visited Betws y Coed, did a short hike to see some gorgeous waterfalls at a National Trust site, visited Beddgelert (gorgeous place!), had lunch at a pretty vineyard, and managed a tour of Caernarfon Castle as well (not to mention all the very stunning views of Snowdon, from different mountain passes throughout the entire day). Carl was so great the entire time. He felt like part of the family by the end! He has a wealth of Welsh history and knowledge, and would give us bits of history, as well as bits of dissection of the Welsh language, and just overall made it very interesting. We are so glad we did this tour. It was the perfect way to see some of the best bits and pieces of a large area, that we would never have found or gotten to by ourselves. Carl even helped us figure out some great places to go to and best train times for other day trips we were taking.
It was also very easy to set up the tour ahead of time through email (and paying through Paypal is so easy!!). We did have the option to send via email a sort of itinerary, or what we most wanted to see, but we weren't entirely sure; we decided to go with what our guide thought on the day of the tour. The recommendations that Carl made when he got there hit the spot exactly for us, and he tweaked them as we went along, if things came up that he thought we would like to see. I can't say enough- I highly recommend their tours!
Awesome Tour
We had an absolutely awesome tour. Liz and Alwyn were so helpful as we planned our trip. Everything went so smoothly from the pick up to the drop off. The tour itself was incredible. From views of snowdonia to driving along the countryside to hearing really neat historical information about Wales. We are a family of 5 with kids ages 8,14 and 18. Every single person had a fantastic experience- we are still talking about the tour almost everyday!
Carl made us love Wales with his cunning plan!
First visit for my brother and me. Carl picked us up at our hotel, produced a map and began suggesting stops. We had the best day! He taught us a little Welsh and a lot of history. We visited castles, saw breathtaking views in Snowdonia and drove down narrow, hidden lanes. Carl was a thoughtful host and is quite witty. This tour was money well spent. Wales is beautiful and I’m convinced we saw many of its best bits!
Private Shore excursion tour
Alwyn was an amazing tour guide. He was so knowledgeable and kind. We chose to have a private tour versus the large cruise ship bus tours so we booked on our own. It was the best thing ever to do. One of the biggest highlights especially for our teenage kids was that when we visited Caeranfron castle (which by the way I still cannot spell or pronouce) we were the ONLY people in there!!! We roamed around in this magnificent place for probably about an hour or more with no one else!! We were able to be there before all the buses. Also Snowdonia and Snowdonia National Park was so pretty. We also went to a non touristy village he preferred versus a another. It was just beautiful!!!Our family would definitely book with Alwyn again if we are able to return to Wales!! Definitely would recommend to friends!!
Wonderful Conwy/Snowdonia tour
We had a delightful tour of the Conwy area in North Wales with Liz Davies at Celticos travel agency. Through her knowledge of this region and,in particular, many off the beaten track sights she showed us, we were both delighted and amazed by the beauty we found everywhere and the kindness of the people we met. We appreciate Liz,s knowledge and personality which made our visit extra special. We highly recommend Celticos agency!
Wondertful Day with Alwyn in North Wales
We went on a 1 day tour with Alwyn when we visited North Wales in June this year. And what a wonderful day it turned out to be. Alwyn is very knowledgeable, almost a walking encyclopedia, regaling us with the history of the places we visited. Anglesey Island, Caenarfon Castle, picturesque villages, the soaring mountains of Snowdonia National Park, slate mines, hidden "secret" places, he had lots to share with us.
He stopped frequently at scenic spots for us to take pictures and even doubled up as photographer .When he found out we had 3 more days to spend in Wales he helped plan our itinerary. We will definitely look him up when we are next in North Wales for another fantastic tour with Alwyn. Thank you, dear Alwyn.
Like a Great Mini-Class
We spent two days with Alwyn of Celticos, first around Snowdonia and then on Anglesey Island. What a pleasure! He chose just the right places for us to visit and filled us in on background, history, and local connections. Unforgettable! We hope to return to visit some of places we couldn't fit into our schedule.
Wonderful Day
Our guide and driver, Aleut, was delightful. He was attentive, gave a great historical background tour and was a safe driver. We went to The World of Wedgewood in Stoke-on-Trent and we took the local roads back to Llandudno. Along the way we stopped for sites and experiences others might have skipped. We will definitely use this tour company again if we are in Northern Wales!
Carl Was A Great Guide
We hired Celtico to give us a tour by someone local and give me a break from driving. We worked with Carl in advance or arriving as we wanted some things from a couple of their example tours. When Carl picked us up on the appointed day, He said he had an idea of the order that we would do things, but we could add or delete along the way to suit our interests. This worked perfectly for us as we had some family history places we hoped to see. Those places came into play pretty quickly and we made an unscheduled stop at a Manor House that a great grandfather had likely worked at or near. We also added a stop a chapel where several ancestors were baptized, married or buried. We also stopped an many Welsh historical sites that we wanted to see. We would let Carl know if we wanted more or less time at each stop. He even stopped at a grocery store for us on the way back to our Airbnb. Thanks Carl. We highly recommend you and Celtico Tours. We hope to see you again.
Spectacular Snowdonia Attractions
My friends and I would like to thank Alwyn for our tour of Snowdonia attractions. The tour programme was well planned and scheduled. Tim was engaging and offered a lot of useful information on the geography and history of the places we visited. He stopped at scenic spots for us to take pictures; offered interesting stories and also for us to go for short walks in quiet beautiful surroundings. He would also join us for walks to ensure we were fine. I can still remember the beautiful scenery and rich history. For lunch, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal in a café near a harbour. Thank you, Tim.
Custom Day Tour
On our trip to Snowdonia and Northern Wales we had a lot of things to see and do on our wish list, but no clear idea of how to organize them all. We reached out to Alwyn at Celticos for help in creating a custom day tour of the Conwy Valley with an extra stop in mind at the Gwinllan Conwy Vineyard. From the moment he picked us up, he was personable and showed a true passion for the area’s storied history. His guidance, knowledge and fun personality transformed our trip from a mere checklist to a real engagement with Welsh culture and an enriching experience that we will always remember. We are hoping to have another round of tours in the near future where we will be bringing our son and daughter-in-law to experience a tour with Celticos. Thank you Alwyn!
Wonderfully coordinated North Wales/Genealogy tour
Carl provided a personalized tour for our family of four adults as we explored our family roots in Anglesey and North Wales. He safely drove us in his spotless car to remote locations of ancestor’s farm sites and cemeteries on efficient routes packed with seaside and inland sights.
Carl’s assistance began before we arrived, with helpful suggestions of how to manage confusing logistics of travel to northern Wales. He coordinated with Keith, a genealogy researcher, who accompanied us on one of our tour days during which he shared new documentation on our family roots, showed us their homes, most of which still are intact and in use. Their headstones of slate looked as if they were engraved last year!
Our three day private genealogy tour of Anglesey/North Wales with Carl was perfect for us from start to finish. It brought our family story back to life.
Four Days of Customuized travel
If you are planning to travel to Wales, then do yourself an immense favor. Give yourself the gift of a truly memorable experience.
Last month I traveled to Wales with a group of 6. What a truly great experience it turned out to be.
From Anglesey Island to Snowdonia, from a slate mine to an original wool weaving site to a hidden picturesque scene known only to the locals, from the river at high tide to the same river at low tide where you could observe the ancient fish traps, from the architectural delights of the Castle where Charles became Duke of York to pastoral hillsides polka-dotted with sheep and cattle and from seaside vistas to lunch at the “The Ugly House” surrounded by floral and herb-embossed gardens, this trip had it all. Customized to our every wish and need, by Allwyn of Celticos, all was accomplished in three and a half short days, travelling in the most comfortable of vans, each seat able to look out the large windows, stopping whenever and wherever we wanted or needed to do so. I need not spoil Allwyn’s delightful tales of Welch life and times, his explanations of the differences between Welch and English castles, his helpful commentary on the art and architecture of the ruins – you must personally experience a private tour with Celticos and Allwyn. Tell him Benidigedig! I hope to be back to again experience his delightful wit and lively conversation.
A successful ancestry find due to Alwyn's willingness and research capabilities!
We had a tour scheduled that we were very much looking forward to. The night before our tour we became aware that we were only 20 miles from where my husband's great great grandfather had lived and was now buried. With very little information to go on, we asked our tour guide, Alwyn, on the day of the tour if we might be able to make Rhuddlan a stop and explained our cause. He was very willing and enthusiastic about our search. He took us to the local castle ruins in that town and while we were exploring he spoke to the locals, reached out to the postman (as he said who has the best knowledge of the town) and also stopped at the local library to dig through their archives. When we were finished with the castle, which was amazing and not nearly as crowded as other more famous ruins, he shared with us his findings. AND we found the headstone of my husband's great great grandfather!! It was such an incredible experience and was shared with my children. There were tears and goosebumps all around. The icing on the cake...the stone was written in Welsh and we recorded him speaking it in native tongue and a translation for us to share with other family members. This day will not soon be forgotten! Thank you, Alwyn! Oh...and the rest of the tour was grand as well! :)
Family Explorations with a Local Knowledgeable Guide
We spent a wonderful day with Carl learning local history, folklore, and exploring natural treasures. He catered our day to our family’s interests (girls ages 11 and 13). Our first stop was Caer Rhun (a Roman Camp & Cemetery); we visited peacocks at Gwydir Castle; stopped by the Ugly House for a soft drink; viewed Snowden Mountain; hiked Dinas Emrys; enjoyed a quick bite at
Pete’s Eats; toured the National Slate Museum and viewed Castle Caernarfon. He took us to places we would never have found on our own and taught us several Welch words. At the end of our day, he assisted us with train reservations (going above and beyond our expectations). We loved our time in Wales and would encourage families of all ages to contact Celticos for a personalized itinerary...especially with Carl. Thank you, Carl, for a job well done!
Amazing tour of Snowdonia
We organised a day tour of Snowdonia with Celtico’s and we were lucky enough to have Alwyn as our guide. The tour was the highlight of our trip to Wales! Alwyn was a fantastic guide and we thoroughly enjoyed his company. He is passionate and very knowledgeable!
I would highly recommend this company for anyone wanting to do a tour of Snowdonia, we loved it!
Thank you very much!
"Second time around" and still amazing!
Since I'm not sure there are too many repeat reviews, I wanted to take a few moments to share some insights about my "second time around" with Alwyn and Celticos! After an absolutely marvelous two-day family history tour back in Aug 2015 (coordinated by Segontium Searchers and Celticos and fulfilling a lifelong dream of discovering more about my Welsh ancestry), I was delighted when I was able to visit Caernarfon again this year. Then two friends heard of my travel plans and asked if they could join me. I immediately contacted Celticos to arrange a one-day sightseeing excursion for us. Just by sharing a few details about their background and interests, Alwyn created a wonderful tour, providing them with a fantastic first impression of the beauty and history of North Wales. Thanks, Alwyn, for making it such a special day for all of us! As I shared with you, my next goal is to return with my daughter so that we can recreate the family ancestry tour -- fingers crossed that happens soon!
Three Delightful Days in North Wales
My friends and I booked three days with Celticos for the trip to North Wales in May, and those three days with Alwyn were just wonderful! He is so knowledgeable, kind, considerate, and friendly that we were all so happy to have him as our guide. He not only took us to the places we had hoped to see, but also pleasantly surprised us by taking us to several "special" places he recommended, which all turned out to be "musts". We also loved the places he took us for lunch. His lectures were both informative and entertaining. He even taught us some Welsh words, some of which we still remember. He was always attentive to our needs and interests. When I told him that one of us was quite interested in railways, he kept it in mind and showed us as many railways in the district as possible. Naturally, this made the railway fan overjoyed. Alwyn is very reliable, and we are most grateful to him for touring with us. We all found Wales much more fascinating than we had expected; all the more so because we had Alwyn as our guide. Also, I would like to thank Liz, whose help I greatly appreciate, for replying to my emails and all my questions while preparing for the trip. Alwyn told us that we were the first Japanese group for him, and we sincerely hope that there will be many more to follow.
Simply the Best - Wonderful Excursion Through Wales
The two of us - married, experienced travelers - spent six days traveling with Carl Mather from Cardiff, west to Pembrokeshire, then east to Aberystwyth, and then to North Wales, ending in Chester. It was nothing short of a fabulous trip. The itinerary grew from a few short emails with Carl. His responses and comments suggested the he would be a kindred spirit. We started the trip with a general plan and knowing where we would stay each night. But the days seemed to evolve as we got to know each other. We went to some well known places, such as St. David's, but also down back roads and to isolated beaches and valleys where there were no other tourists in sight. Carl is a linguist, an intellectual, and a great conversationalist. He is easy and fun to be with, and we learned a lot from each other about the meaning of life. We have traveled with guides in many countries. By that and any other measure, Carl is a superstar. You will be delighted.
Two Informative and Scenic Days in North Wales
My wife and I booked two days with Carl, with an expressed interest in Edward I's castles, Welsh history, and scenic locations. Carl delivered exactly what we wanted with a pleasing mix of local knowledge, professionalism, and friendliness. Individual tour guides are not inexpensive, but this was money well spent. At the beginning we exchanged brief personal histories and quickly learned we shared much in common, including careers in education. Carl understood our interest in history, my interest in photography (we talked cameras), and answered every question we posed. He also enabled us to see parts of North Wales that we could never have seen without a car, and that I could never had enjoyed if I were driving. On both days he met us on Anglesey at 9:30 and gave us a full day of touring, relieved by stops for lunch and tea at charming places. At the end of the 2d day he dropped us off with our luggage in Conwy and gave us dining recommendations there as well.
Four magical days in North Wales
From the moment Alwyn met us in England, until he took us to the train back to Scotland 4 days later; this was the best tour we have ever taken in Europe. Our group of six had sent Celticos our list of "want to see" and Alwyn took it from there. We had just the right amount of "must see" and special places that he knew. We felt we were with a friend seeing their country rather than tourists. Each day he presented us with a plan and off we would go. We were never rushed and could enjoy each place as long as we wanted. We saw English castles, Welsh castles, archeological sites, Snowdonia National Park, man-made features such as the canal on the aqueduct and bridges across the Menai strait, and the lovely small villages and churches. As he got to know our interests, he took us to many off the beaten track sites. His stories made all we saw so very interesting. Alwyn showed a care and concern for us by choosing wonderful places for lunch (if you book a tour with Celticos insist on the "Ugly House" for lunch) and brief breaks for snacks, etc. The tour was all we wanted and more. You can always have a tour and then you can have a wonderful experience in a new country with a new friend. This tour was the latter. Thank you, Alwyn, we are already saving for our next trip to Wales.
One of the best things I've done so far
...and most expensive too but worth very penny. We booked the private tour for 1 and +/2 days at the last minute so were glad they could make it. We were fortunate to have Alwyn as our guide. He was very knowledgeable, with good sense of humour and great company to have around. The tours are tailor made and ours was very well organized and we covered quite a lot in a short time. I travelled with my cousin (in her 70s coming all the way from Argentina to see Belfast, Dublin & Snowdonia) so we requested not too much walking. We were picked up from our B&B in the mornings and Alwyn also dropped us at Lladnundo Junction in time to take our train back to London.
There were many highlights but for me seeing the colours Parys Mountain Copper Mine (see photos) and Pennon Cross & The Dove Cote were right on top of the list. And a hidden gem near the Slate Museum...we would have missed if we did it on our own. Also mind you, it is not easy to get to places in tge North of Wales as attractions are a bit far apart and it may take you a while or you will miss them if you have your own transport. So best to do a private tour with local folks.
The tour is tailor made to your needs. We had abit of everything: main attractions, history and heritage inc Roman sites and Burial chambers and among other things we manage to fit in: Menai Straits, Swallow Falls, Snowdonia Nat Park, Anglesey inc he famous South Stack Light House, Convy Castle and Valley, Caernafon Castle & Walls , Bauvaris Castle, Capel Gaermon Burial Chamber. We had plenty of photos opportunities and stops for cake & coffee & lunch. Alwyn even recommended a wonderful place for dinner (The Garddfon Inn & Bistro - excellent seafood with mussels hand picked only a mile away and Welsh cheeses ) and they are planning to combine tours with local cuisine. I highly recommend this company. Tour was planned to perfection. The drive was very scenic and we were very lucky with the weather too so everything was even more beautiful.
An Historical/Archeological Magical Mystery Tour of Wales
My husband and I spent three and a half days touring in both North and South Wales plus Chester and Bath in England with Alwyn. Alwyn has a great love for his country of Wales and is proud of his Welch heritage. This fact is revealed through his expert guidance. He has an endless knowledge of the history of Wales with some fun stories and legends thrown into the mix. He arranged the tour based on our interests and took us to some out-of-the-way archeology sites not many others would know about. He is an all-around nice person - fun to be with and a great sense of humor. We laughed a lot. We enjoyed our tour with Alwyn so much that we are arranging for a repeat tour of Wales and some time in Ireland for the near future. Mary K
Fantastic day tour of North Wales
Alwyn led my husband and me on the perfect day tour of North Wales/Snowdonia area in August. We mentioned some things we were interested in, and he packed a day full of fascinating Welsh history and sites in the beautiful countryside. We enjoyed stops at a castle and in Snowdonia National Park, but the highlight of our tour was an introduction to the slate mining industry, something we were interested because of family heritage. Alwyn shared mountains of knowledge on our tour through the industry's boom and struggles, its social and economic history, and impressive sites, from a hike to an old mining site to stops at the port and mine owners' homes and, of course, the wonderful National Slate Museum. It was the best kind of tour -- one that leave you wanting to learn more. Our time with Alwyn was one of the highlights of our two-week trip. I absolutely recommend Celticos and hope to get back for another tour with them someday!
All Things Welsh
We toured three days with Carl as our guide, mediator, and enthusiastic champion of all things Welsh. He was able to keep this diverse family group entertained and continually answered all our questions. I would definitely recommend Celticos and Carl for anyone traveling to Wales. The flexible itinerary allowed us to set the pace and Carl's listening skills provided us the variety we asked for.
This family group was made up of adult family members but Tripadvisor did not have a category for "Family" only so I selected "Friends".

Wonderful tour of Wales
We toured Pembrokeshire, Mid-Wales and North Wales with Carl in late August. It was an exciting, eclectic 6 days. Carl created a flexible itinerary that captured our must-see sites and our diverse interests while adding in some hidden gems (we're sworn to secrecy to keep them unspoiled).
We asked for a tour that included castles, King Arthur, history, food, wine and a little adventure (zip-lining). Carl helped me with my atrocious Welsh pronunciation and took us to a great Welsh bookstore in Caernarfon (Palas Print) to promote my desire to learn some Welsh. He also introduced us to some great Snowdonia cold-weather white wine and helped us create a fun picnic dinner at Bodnant Welsh Food Centre.
Overall we had a wonderful time and can't wait to return and do some more touring with Celticos.
Excellent Anglesey Tour!
My wife and I had a private one day tour of Anglesey with Alwyn. It was an awesome experience! Our experience was tailored to our interests (ancient history) and we got an excellent picture of the history of the island and Wales. We saw tons of interesting monuments and historical sites, many found off the beaten path on farms and other locations we never would have been able to find ourselves. Alwyn had a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of the island and its history, and we learned tons.
Alwyn was very accommodating of our needs and schedule the entire time. The tour we took was about 8 hours long, but the itinerary is custom so your tour may be different lengths. We would recommend this experience to anyone who loves history, sightseeing or simply wants to know more about where they're traveling!
Tour of attractions near Cardiff then drive through Brecon Beacon National Park to Northern Wales.
My husband, daughter and sister-in-law went on a weeks tour with Alwyn. Every day was a new and interesting adventure. We saw the most amazing Edward I castles, Welsh castles, monastic sites, remains of Iron Age villages, Neolithic burial tombs and standing stones from 2,000 B.C. We were guided through the mountains of Snowdonia NP where the pink bloom of the heather was reflected in the many clear lakes and streams. Toured industries both past and present slate and granite quarries, wool production and weaving...we came home each night in N. Wales to stay within the ancient walls of Caernarfon with a view from our room of the castle. Alwyn filled our minds with ancient history and Welsh words. If you would like a large step back in time in a most beautifully scenic country with very generous and accommodating people then Wales and specifically N. Wales with Alwyn Griffith of Celticos Tours is the way to go! The beer and food are pretty good too!
A fantastic tour of Anglesey !!!
My husband and I had a wonderful tour of Anglesey with Alwyn. He was brilliant - he'd arranged the entire day to allow us to see as much of Anglesey as possible, with loads of photo opportunities (we are both keen photographers) and an endless supply of fascinating information about the area. The day TOTALLY exceeded our expectations, and we'd give Alwyn and Celticos the highest recommendation possible. A huge and very sincere to Alwyn for a wonderful way to end our holiday in North Wales.
Great Tour!!!
Wow! Alwyn was great! Full of facts & stories. Passionate. Prompt and very professional. I write very few reviews, but this company deserves five stars.
Very Enjoyable Tour!!
Alwyn was so great! We booked a 2 day castle tour and the tour absolutely exceeded our expectations. We saw various historical sites around Wales and Alwyn gave so much information about each place. Not only facts about what happened but also myths/legends and how they came to be. If our stay would have been longer we would have definitely booked more days. 2 days is not enough time to see all the beautiful sites Wales has to offer. Without question, we would definitely book with Celticos again!
Best way to see Wales -- with Celticos!
My husband and I recently did a 4 day tour of Wales with Carl of Celticos. It was top notch! Carl asked questions and made suggestions to be sure our tentative itinerary actually suited us. My husband and I have very different interests but Carl managed to tailor our tour to cover both. He filled us in on Welsh history and events and was patient with my attempts to pronounce Welsh names. Thanks, Carl, for a wonderful visit to your beautiful country!
Thoroughly enjoyable, Alwyn is a very knowledgeable tour…
Thoroughly enjoyable, Alwyn is a very knowledgeable tour guide, my family and I had a fantastic experience in North Wales with Celticos
A truly memorable experience...
We came to Wales with very little knowledge about the history or geography of the North Wales region. However, my parents and I have left with numerous memories and countless stories of the legends and events that belong to this beautiful land. We were lucky enough to be guided by both Alwyn and Carl for 3 and 1 day respectively.
What made this trip exceptional was the passion that both of them possess for the area and to provide an experience tailored to your taste. There is a genuine warmth about them that makes it a great space for curious enquiries and banter adding to the overall quality of the time spent together.
What made Celticos even more special is their endeavour to show us mesmerising sights and locations that usual tourists don't go to which led us to some breathtaking jewels (Nant, ugly house in Snowdonia etc.)
I have always enjoyed listening to myths and stories and there is nothing better to come across someone like Alwyn who can paint a picture in your head with his brilliant storytelling.
We had so much fun and my parents are actually considering retiring in North Wales by just what they saw in 4 days!
Thank you Celticos,
We like the Red Dragon more too ;)
Amazing Day Tour in Northern Wales
Alwyn was our guide for the day around northwest Wales. The four of us were picked up at our B&B in Llandudno to see the sights. Alwyn was very knowledgable and humorous, and an excellent driver on the challenging roads of the region. The tour was customized on the go as he learned more about what we were interesting in. (We had a 16 year boy who needed to see castles!) We saw the standard sights, but also some hidden gems such as the Ugly House for lunch and Penmon Priory.
Our guide's knowledge of the area was impressive and the tour was at our pace with us still getting everything in. It was an incredible full day of memory making. Thanks Alwyn!
Wonderful
Celticos was a wonderful partner. We had to reshuffle plans over an extended period due to a family emergency, and they were very adaptive. On the tour, they tailored it to our specific requests, while showing us the essential sites we might not have understood on our own. Our guide, Carl, was professional, friendly, and learned in leading us through the day. Wonderful, and zero criticisms.
Wonderful day tour of Holyhead and Anglesey.
Alwyn of Celticos Tours picked me up at my hotel in Llandudno in a very comfortable new tour van. We were joined by Keith of Segontium Searchers, who researched my ancestors who emigrated from Holyhead to New York. Alwyn provided extensive knowledge of the region, along with historical facts and interesting stories. He was very patient and accommodating, stopping for photos and to make sure I had good views. He also has a great sense of humor and is a very good driver! The day passed quickly, but I saw the neighborhoods in Holyhead where my family lived, the Old Harbor, St. Cybi's Church, South Stack Lighthouse and Ellin's Tower, and an ancient hut circle. We drove to the scenic towns of Menai Bridge and Beaumarais, then Alwyn returned me to my hotel. It was a very lovely day, and one that I will long remember. Thank you, Alwyn!
The best way to travel
My husband and I just spent 4 days with Alwyn touring North Wales. He knows everything there is to know about the history of the country, and when we told him that was what we were interested in, he was glad to share his knowledge. He also knows every place that serves homemade goodies. Wales is beautiful, and touring with Alwyn made all the difference between a good trip and a wonderful experience.
Excelente tour , top notch
We have taken a taylored tour with Carl as driver and guide all around Anglesey. Flawless from all points of view one of our best experiences in UK so far.Off the beaten road most of the time ,would definitely recommend .Diolch yn fawr,Carl .
Wonderful private tours
Carl was an outstanding tour guide for my two days exploring North Wales--a day in Snowdonia, and a second day in Anglesey. He was very knowledgeable, interesting, attentive to my interests and limits, and thoroughly upbeat. I got to see amazing places that ordinary tours skip and even learned a little about pronouncing those intimidating Welsh names, from someone who grew up there. If you are looking for a private tour, I would highly recommend Celticos and especially Carl.
Awesome 4-day trip in North Wales thanks to Celticos!
Our 4 day trip to Northern Wales was one of the very best guided trips we’ve had, thanks to the help of Celticos’ Alwyn Griffith and Liz Davies. We worked with them to set up a trip that would meet the desires and interests of our family group of two 60-ish parents, our 24 year old daughter, and our 30 year old son and his wife. Based on recommendations from Celticos and flexibility in planning for weather, we were able to visit ruins, castles, beautiful vistas, a cloth mill and the oddity of Portmeirion while incorporating Snowdonia hikes, zip lines and other active pursuits. Alwyn’s knowledge of the area and masterful telling of Welsh legends allowed us an understanding that we could never have acquired if we had traveled alone. Our family was reticent about using a tour guide based on dissatisfaction from other trips we’ve taken over the decades, but Alwyn was a favorite of everyone in our party. The vehicle was the perfect size for us and Alwyn’s surefooted driving and navigation were exactly what we wanted from the start, relieving us of the stress we’d experience attempting left hand drive on the narrow local roads. Also, Celticos stepped in to help us when an unexpected issue arose with our train travel, saving our trip. I have advised friends to add Northern Wales to their bucket lists based on our wonderful trip.
RIGID!
I absolutely understand cancellation policies, really I do! It's unfair for a company to lose money due to a last minute change from a customer. BUT, I booked a tour EIGHT MONTHS in advance and promptly paid my deposit. Then, after only TWO DAYS, I found out my trip's plans were unavoidably changed. So, I requested a refund of my deposit--two days after I paid it, and 8 months before the tour. They refused. And weren't even nice about it.
Another warmly personalized tour of Wales with Celticos
We're a repeat customer (which says a lot in itself), and had an opportunity to tour specific sites on the way from Bangor to Chester, timed to catch our train back to London. Carl did a magnificent job researching how to get to some rather obscure sites related to the legend of King Arthur. And again, found a delightful place for lunch that was both delicious and had an interesting setting. Carl was very careful and realistic about what we could fit in with the time (since we had a train to catch at the end of the day). Another wonderful experience touring Wales as a finale to our daughter's study abroad time in Wales.
Such a beautiful tour of North Wales
We had always wanted to see Portmeirion and I had heard North Wales was beautiful. We were absolutely blown away by the bespoke tour Alwyn worked out for us! We had one full day where I requested castles, scenery, and charming villages with a good place to eat. He also picked us up at the train the day before where we had a delightful introduction to our journey - the scenery was unbelievably varied and we stopped by the side of the road and saw a hidden waterfall first thing! We ate at the Ty Hyll (the Ugly House) and saw a bit of Snowdonia on the way. The next day's tour was filled with everything we requested and more - Alwyn is adept at gauging his tours to his customers and timed to give us what we wanted whether it was more time to explore or adjusting the itinerary to fit in what we really wanted to see. We felt so comfortable - not only with the van and Alwyn's driving, but he seemed to know when to talk and tell us stories and when to just drive and point out the amazing sites. We saw so many hidden treasures like the National Slate Museum (follow Alwyn's instructions to amazement!), Nant Gwrtheyrn and its charming story, and Fort Belan and its unique place in history. Alwyn hit the perfect balance of my interest in history (he answered all my questions with so much interesting detail), my husband's appreciation of the scenery, and my 20-year-old daughter's love of myths and castles. We felt like we made a friend and would recommend this company for any sort of tour you might imagine! Thank you Alwyn and Celticos and I hope we will be back for another tour some day.
Carl is THE BEST tour guide ever!
We hired Carl for a personal tour of north Wales and Snowdonia National Park. He was so pleasant, good natured, and good humored, and designed our tour around what we wanted to see. He took us to many different stops, and we were able to spend as much time at each destination as we liked. He picked us up at our hotel in Conwy, drove us around for 8 hours that day. It was the highlight of our trip! We enjoyed that day so much! Thank you to Carl, and to celticos.com for the fabulous day!
Eight Wonderful Days Touring Wales
Alwyn Griffith met our plane in Manchester and we headed to Wales for a trip to see castles, ruins, churches, small villages, and lovely scenery. We were a group of photographers eager to photograph the old Welsh castles and burial sites. Our weather was very good. Our entire trip was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed Alwyn and hearing his many interesting facts on Welsh history as we journeyed about. His van was comfortable and nice with ample room for four adults and a bunch of luggage. Alwyn was considerate, friendly, and very easy to work with. We spent three nights in N Wales, two nights in Pembrokeshire, and two in Cardif. He returned us to Manchester the evening of our final day of sight seeing. All in all, it was perfect. We couldn't have had a nicer tour guide or better trip.
Fascinating introduction to northern Wales
My husband and I toured with Alwyn for two full days. We didn't want to drive, or to depend on public transportation. Alwyn's tour was wonderful! He listened very closely to our interests. He showed us many fascinating places, some of which we had read about beforehand, but some of which we would never have come across on our own. It was some of these lesser known places that will especially linger in my memory. Alwyn's in-depth knowledge tied together the places we saw in a thoughtful narrative about Wales. I highly recommend Celtico Day Tours!
Wonderful personally tailored tour of Snowdonia
We were glad to find a bespoke tour company that could tailor a tour of Snowdonia to our special interest in sites related to King Arthur. Carl was knowledgeable and personable, and really paid attention to what sites we wanted to see and made a plan that would fit the time allowed. Snowdonia is such a beautiful and scenic place, but so large that having a guide to focus on specific points of interest and do all the driving helped us have an exceptional experience there. He was mindful about how to fit everything in the day without being rushed, and flexible about how to make things work when parking wasn't available at our first stop. Clearly he had researched the sites and personally worked out the hiking routes ahead of time and enjoyed sharing the stories of the region where he lived. And he even found a wonderful place to stop for lunch in a converted chapel. Carl really helped us make the most of our day, and was enjoyable to talk with throughout. He gave us an amazing memorable day in Snowdonia. Highest recommendation for tours in the North Wales area.
Brilliant day discovering Anglesey.
Booked this as a special treat for our anniversary . The whole experience from booking , through to the day itself was exceptional and exceeded our expectations. Our driver and guide , Carl was lovely. Knowledgable and very comfortable to be with , not easy when you are a party of two people . He was very flexible with the itinerary but we saw all we wanted to and more. We had a day to remember and have no hesitation recommending this company to anyone for a wonderful way to experience the hidden and not so hidden , gems in North Wales.
Amazing day
I strongly recommend Celticos Tours because I think its the best way to know more about the North of Wales, its nature, its culture and its very rich History. We were fascinated to experience the knowledge and passion for all this features that Alwyn and Carl have and transmit to you in the tour. There's no better way to learn about a country than with people that really enjoy telling its story.
Me and my wife will take the North of Wales back to Panamá in our hearts. ¡Gracias, Alwyn and Carl!.
Best of the Best Tours
My husband and I have traveled extensively and rank this trip at the very top. The scenery (like the weather) is variable and always lovely. Alwyn took us to places based on the weather for the current day so to be inside visiting a grand or not so pretentious home or sunny/dry when exploring castles. Caernarfon Castle is outstanding! Snowdon mountain in the Snowdonia range is magnificent! Alwyn suggested we buy a pass for the heritage sites and we were glad we did.
We asked Alwyn for suggestions for lodging and chose the Black Boy Inn. Perfect choice and location. Alwyn has so much knowledge to offer on the entire area and he is incredibly amiable. You will be absolutely delighted with this guided tour. I guarantee it!
Alwyn dropped us off at the airport in Liverpool to continue our travels in Edinburgh specifically for the Scotland Military Tattoo. This was once in a lifetime show that I will also cherish with our N Wales visit.
Conwy and adjacent area
What an incredible day! Our guide Carl was a fount of knowledge, wit, history, and all things Welsh. Carl was flexible with wonderful suggestions and advice. At the end of the day we felt Carl was like family (the one you like.)
Our trip to North Wales
We spent a wonderful day with Alwyn in North Wales. He is personable and full of information. He took us to places we would never have found on our own. He is flexible and went out of his way to show us this beautiful part of Wales. Also, he is a great driver. We would definitely recommend Alwyn to anyone wanting to enhance their understanding of the beauty, culture, and history of North Wales.
Highlights of North Wales
We enjoyed our day tour with Alwyn very much. The main goal for the two of us had been to get to Portmeirion, but Alwyn showed us so much more. He took us in his clean and comfortable van through the Conwy Valley down to Portmeirion, stopping at Trefriw and the Ugly House, historic churchyards, castles, lakes, and other spots for good Snowdonia views. We found him to be considerate, friendly, not intrusive and very knowledgeable about the area. He was able to answer all our questions. Well worth the price, definitely recommended.
great experience in Wales
Allwyn was a great host. He discussed our needs and things we wanted to do and took us for a day tour of the area. When we were finished he gave us a map and told us places we could go in our rental car and directions to go to visit them. Well worth the cost to get an overview of the area!
Snowdonia National Park tour
After 5 years living in Caernarfon, my wife and I had the opportunity to book a day tour... I thought I knew the area but Alwyn took us to such nice places, hidden spaces and he was so learned about the history and facts he was telling us, that the whole day was gone before noticing. Shame that the weather was not good, but landscape was amazing though... with a clear day it should be mindblowing!!!
Wow! What a Day!
My mother and I booked a day long tour of Anglesey and the surrounding area. This tour exceeded every expectation we had! Alwyn was a friendly and fun guide who took us on an amazing journey that covered everything from ancient burial sites to a true Welsh castle. Alwyn's extensive knowledge and obvious love of the area made this day all the more enjoyable. He answered all of our questions and not only did we see a lot, we LEARNED a lot! The tour began when he picked us up at our hotel at 9:30 am and was truly a full day, with him dropping us back off at 5:30. The number of things we were able to do and see was truly remarkable! This tour was a great value for the money and worth every single penny! Would HIGHLY recommend!! A truly lovely day in every way!
A great tour of North Wales
Alwyn showed us things we would never have seen on our own, stuffed it full of rich history and took us to great food to top it off.
A wonderful day in Anglesey
Alwyn showed us Anglesey in a day and it was fantastic. Castles, mines, farms, ancient sites and more. Most of this we could never have done on our own. Alwyn is knowledgable, polite and flexible. Couldn't have been better.
Outstanding first day in North Wales
Our family of four (mom, dad, two girls ages 14, 12) booked our first day in Wales with Alwyn. It worked out perfectly - not only did we have a great day but we had a full agenda planned for our remaining 2 additional days! We really wanted to get off the well-trod tour-book path in Wales and thats exactly what we got with Alwyn. From our trip to the working sheep farm to a real Welsh Castle (and Alwyn we clearly explain how thats different from the Norman castles!) we had an outstanding time. There was also clearly more to do so I wouldn't hesitate to book with Alwyn again next time we're in Wales.
Attractive Castles at Wales, Comfortable Tour
Alwyn picked a group of Chinese graduates from Bangor University up at Management Center of Bangor University on July 17th. We had a great time with Alwyn during the visits to many castles at Wales, such as Penrhyn, Welsh Castle, and Caernarfon Castle. Students were so obsessed with the Welsh natural scenery and the rich and long cultural history of the Castles that they didn't feel like leaving Wales. All of them through wechat communication express a strong nostalgia and tell me as a group leader that they will recommend this trip to their friends and they will come back someday in the future to revisit North Wales as to them it is their second hometown. Thanks again on behalf of myself and the students for Alwyn's responsibility and detailed explanation to the places of interest.
Stepping back in time and discovering six generations of Welsh history!
I was recently able to fulfill a lifelong dream of learning about my Welsh ancestry, all thanks to the "dynamic duo" of Keith Morris (Segontium Searchers) and Alwyn Griffith (Celticos). These two gents worked together to create a bespoke family history tour for me that was unlike anything I could have imagined. The level of planning, preparation and attention to detail they provided was astonishing -- an experience I will never forget! After all, it's not every day you get to stand at the altar of the church where your great great grandparents were married in 1842, or learn from local historians about the role your great grandfather played in the 1885 strike at the Dinorwic Quarries. These are just a couple of examples of doing a family history tour with the winning combination of Alwyn and Keith. They truly deliver an amazing adventure -- not only did I get to step back in time and learn about my family but (as I kept telling them) I felt more Welsh with every passing moment!
Very customized overview of Northern Wales
Alwyn picked us up at our B&B. We had previously let him know the general things we were interested in doing and seeing. We got to all the places we wanted to see as well as a few gems Alwyn recommended. Included in the tour was the area around Snowdonia, and several castles.
Snowdonia is stunning
Alwyn provided the perfect bespoke tour. He gave information without overload. Plenty of tips and ideas for future visits. Having travelled to many stunning places in the world, Snowdonia still rivals them. We felt looked after and secure throughout. Alwyn has a great calm approach and provided us with a memorable day.
A splendid tour of Wales
Alwyn was the perfect guide and took us to see many interesting sites! He let us rome around and explore. When we were tired, we rested, which is important to us as a family. The slate factory was really interesting and the two different kinds of castles was so much fun!
North Wales Magical Tour!
Our North Wales tour was by far the highlight of our UK trip.
A combination of a spectacular and magnificent Wales and a very knowledgeable, informative guide would certainly result in a wonderful tour.
Mr. Alwyn Griffith was a charming and very informative host. He definitely had extremely good local knowledge. He is a proud Welshman too!
I have contacted Alwyn few months prior to our arrival to organize the trip. You could tell immediately from his responsiveness and knowledge that we are in for a treat when we arrive to Wales.
He made suggestions and I am so glad that we followed his advice.
The whole trip was very well organized down to all the little details.
We were concerned at the beginning that a full day tour would lead our kids to boredom, crankiness and demands to go home after couple of hours. It was the total opposite. Alwyn was charming in his own way. He grabbed the kids’ attention the minute he met them. They became so interested when we started making our stops at the spots recommended by Alwyn. Castles and Welsh Farm experience was the highlight of the tour for them. We were picked up from the hotel at 10:00 am and dropped back off to the hotel at 5:00 pm. At the end of the trip, the kids (and us) wanted more and felt sad the tour was over.
Alwyn and his tour lived up to all the reviews we have read before. It was a great time and the scenery was amazing and out of this world.
Thank you Alwyn for a fantastic day! You have created family memories that will never be forgotten!
I highly recommend this trip to everyone.
Great Value!!!
Our tour was the highlight of a 17-day trip around the UK. Celticos was one of a few companies recommended by our hotelier, and are we ever so glad it was Celticos we had chosen!
Our tour guide was professional, personable, organized and extremely knowledgeable. We left it to him to determine what we 'should' see, and he organized our trip so that we saw the major sights and experienced local flavor.
He was extremely flexible in what we saw and when we stopped to spend time. If we had a request to see more and stop, we always did.
I had researched big bus tours and knew we could only fit two in a day, and those two would not have given us the opportunity to see all that we wanted to see. For our party of four, Celticos was an economical option to two bus tours, and yet we got so much more for our money!
We enjoyed our trip with Alwyn Griffith so much we can't wait to go back again!!!
Perfect for a North Wales tour
We had a full but very relaxing day; Alwyn took us to places only locals would know about such as the places with the best views and a lovely local coffee shop. The tour was organized very efficient and he took into consideration all our requests. Everyone was happy at the end of the day as this was both nature and history tour.
I was impressed with the promptitude of the service!
Well rounded tour in North Wales!
Tour was a great experience through North Wales! I learned so much about the history of the area, the culture and and the language while on the tour. So much of North Wales is really hard to get to if you don't have a car, and even when you do it can be confusing for someone like me who is not from the UK. Alwyn did a great job of taking me around places that other tours wouldn't have access to, like Fort Belan, which was built because of the American Revolution. Any questions I had Alwyn was happy to answer them, and his knowledge of the area made for a knowledgeable time around Wales. From around Snowdonia, castles, slate mines and visiting locals, we got to see so many different things in our day tour. Alwyn was prepared with books of images and information while we rode along, and seemed to know so many people in the community, which was wonderful to feel so welcomed by locals who were interested in my trip. Alwyn took the time to let me take as many pictures as I liked, and stopped at several different locations to explain the history and culture of the area. I loved getting to spend a day learning about North Wales, and definitely would recommend people try out Celticos for a personal and informative tour!
A superb bespoke tour!
We approached Alwyn of Celticos with only a vague idea of what we wanted from our late-December day out, just a taster of an area we had not visited before. The day was superb, and from the moment he picked us up from our hotel, we benefited from his anecdotes and insights, whether he was explaining an aspect of Roman history, or telling us about the rich heritage of the slate mining industry and the people who worked in it. He also knows the best places to stop to appreciate the wonderful natural dramas around Snowdonia and the Conwy valley.
It was a whistlestop tour, but that is just what we wanted, and it gave us plenty of ideas for our next visit. We couldn't imagine a better guide than Alwyn, who knows the people and places so well. We are coming back and it goes without saying we'll be using Celticos again.
Best Tour Guide Ever!
As part of my filming project with Godfather Films in North Wales, I decided to hire the services of Celticos for one day to guide me around the area and advise me on filming locations. The local knowledge of the area and the weather conditions provided by Alwyn proved to be invaluable to the success of my filming project. Celticos took me to places of amazing scenic beauty and interest, I would not been able to find these places on my own.
Excellent tour of Snowdonia
We had an excellent private day tour of Snowdonia with Alwyn our Celticos guide. After being picked up at our hotel he took us into the heart of Snowdonia showing us panoramic and varied scenic locations. It was so interesting to understand and to learn about the way of life, both past and present of this fascinating area of North Wales.
This is an ideal way to explore the area and to be taken to places away from the main tourist locations was an added bonus.
Private day tour of Anglesey
I have an interest in lighthouses and when I was in Angelsey I figured that there had to be a lighthouse somewhere along the rugged Welsh coastline. I had used Celticos before on a previous visit to Wales and by sheer chance I took the opportunity to give Alwyn a call to see if he could arrange a visit to a light house .
He was available and told me about South Stack lighthouse and the was just the beginning . It seems there are many lighthouses along the Welsh coast .We went to a local railroad station that has the longest name in the world and he spent a lot of time driving around the island.
I would definitely recommend getting hold of Celticos for a guided tour
Snowdonia & Anglesey
When I first enquired online about the tour, I received an immediate phone call from Alwyn(Celticos). He enquired about where and what we required from the tour. What did we want? I left it to him. He arrived at the Empire Hotel Llandudno a few minutes before our agreed start time (0930). He enquired again about our desired areas. So pleased I left the planning to him. We were a party of eight and the mini coach was comfortable and indeed very clean. Through the Snowdonia national park with stops of historic interest and beauty. We soon realised that our driver and guide (Alwyn) had a thorough knowledge of the history of the area as well as knowing where to stop for the breath-taking views. He also had books and maps and showed us all exactly where we were going and where we were. In the afternoon we went across the bridge to Anglesey, with it's lovely bays and small ports. It was hard to imagine that at one time the Mainland and Anglesey, had been an industrial area employing thousands of men and women in Slate mines and quarries and Copper mines too. As well as enjoying the sights we learned a brief history of what used to be. We arrived back at the Empire at 1735 just a few minutes past the original scheduled time.
Thank you Alwyn we enjoyed our day with you. My daughter in law said, what a good idea and such an enjoyable day. It was as if we had known you for years. Personal and Customer service is obviously paramount to you.

Integrating past and present Wales
We are very glad that a last minute cancellation allowed us to spend time with Alwyn touring north Wales. His knowledge of the area dates back to ancient times but seemlessly integrates the current day. As someone always looking for a taste of the local culture/cuisine/mindset, we covered such diverse settings as ancient ruins, modern day hill farming, and the Royal Naval Volunteer reserve. Alwyn was thoughtful and kind - always ready with a story or interesting tidbit about the area. We had a wonderful visit and would love to return someday.
Highly professional approach - I'm coming back!
I booked the Anglesey Sightseeing Guided Tour to give me a good basis for my further discovery of this lovely island "Ynys Mon" or "Mother of Wales".
Although I had studied several travel guids and googled a lot about the island, many things my driver and guide Alwyn pointed out to me were truly hidden gems: he took his time to explain to me the meaning of Welsh words which I would repeatedly encounter on the island, the history of the islanders and their affiliation towards the "mainland" and showed me places i.d. churches, ritual grounds, battle fields which are not mentioned in the common maps or guides.
I was very impressed by staff and equipment - both "fresh" and immaculate. The tour had a very personal touch as we visited local cafes, met locals and enjoyed local authenticity - which I like to cherish during my travels worldwide. The travel in the 8 seater van was safe and stressfree. Alwyn is a wonderful host, matchmaking between visitors, country and people! I'm coming back!
Great tour with Celticos
We had a thoroughly enjoyable tour with Celticos. Centred on Llanberis, we got a great taste of Snowdonia. Alwyn was hugely informative and entertaining the tour took in a great variety of locations, including a fascinating visit to a hill farm. Thoroughly recommended!
Thanks Alwyn - great day and so many 'hidden gems'
We had a fabulous day travelling mainly around Llanberis, the coast up to Bangor and beyond and a little of Anglesey. Alwyn was willing to adapt to all our requests and we finished 45 minutes late (we were very happy to keep going) to fit in some other things he wanted to show us. He also was a fount on info on other things to do around the area - in retrospect should have done this at the start of our stay.
Unforgetable day tour with Celticos
The day we spent with Alwyin was just fantastic. He was tireless showing us interesting places and telling about the history of the country itself. He knows a lot. We' ve been in places and historical spots we could never ever imagine before. He arranged a perfect day trip for us, based on what we wanted to know e see in North Wales. It surpassed all the expectations. We have been even at an old cooper mine!! Thank you,Alwyin and Celticos Guided Tours , we had an unforgettable day and we do hope to come back and see/ know much more about this beautiful and amazing country.
Wonderful day tour in North Wales
We had an amazing day on the Conwy Valley & Menai Straits Sightseeing Tour with Alywyn Griffith of Celticos Tours. In his comfortable van, Alwyn took us to places off the beaten path on roads we would never have traveled on our own. We saw medieval castles, Roman roads and forts, and remnants of slate mining which played such an important role in the lives of the Welsh people.
Meeting and interacting with so many locals along the way made the trip especially rewarding. Alwyn is obviously known and respected by people throughout North Wales, perhaps because of his passion for responsible tourism. Thank you Alwyn for an incredible experience.
Personalized Tours
Any day trip around Wales that you arrange with Alwyn Griffiths will give you memories to last your whole lifetime. He works out customized tours based on your personal wishes so that you can see and experience all the best parts of the area. I contacted Alwyn saying that I didn't want my tour to feel commercialized, and that I wanted to take some back roads to see things that the normal coach buses don't go near. There were several surprises he arranged that kept everyone in the van excited, and made us feel like we were not only just his passengers, but his friends. The day was so completely educational, entertaining and fun that we didn't want it to end. I recommend Celticos as top notch to anyone going to visit this region.
Local History Group
I belong to a History Group in Colwyn Bay. Aylwyn took a small group of us out for the day.
It was a most rewarding experience. He knows many hidden gems of this area. I have
lived here for 26 years and he showed the group a wonderful old church - I didn't know
existed - talked about the vast slate mines in the Snowdonia area, and we visited one of
the original Welsh Castle - built to fight off the Normans. What a wonderful
day it was. Anyone who wants a very different tour of North Wales should contact
Aylwyn.

Magical mystery tour
[Posted on behalf of my mother who doesn't use a computer nor the internet]
"I was surprised and delighted at the discoveries we made, on what can only be described as a magical mystery tour with Alwyn Griffiths. Our knowledgable guide took us into the heart of Snowdonia to show us many of its hidden gems, and to meet people who live and work there."
History tour
Allwyn of Celticos took members of a History group out for a day. I thought I knew the area well but we were taken to a medieval church few of us had visited before, then went to the Llanberis area to look at the influence of the slate mines. He was full of interesting anecdotes. with photos to add information. A really interesting trip, well planned.

Pen Cae Heritage Tour
Alwyn, Keith, Liz (and Roger)
We started out hoping to see the general area where my father was born, maybe the house where he lived prior to coming to the USA in 1912. We also hoped to see slate quarries where my grandfather worked and if we were really lucky maybe we would get a chance to meet a few cousins who might still live in the area. What Celticos and Segontium Genealogical Research provided was beyond imagination. I couldn't begin to describe in this small space everything we experienced. I can say that this team delivered all of that and so much more. Every moment topped the previous moment. We were blown away!!
Thank You soooooo much!!!

A fabulous tour of Anglesey
Our tour guide Alwyn Griffith from Celticos looked after us extremely well for the whole weekend. Celticos offers walking, foraging and craft related tours in North Wales and it was immediately obvious that we were in the hands of a real expert.
The weather forecast for Saturday was abysmal, but this didn’t deter Alwyn, who assured us that we would dodge the showers, and indeed we did!
We started with a visit to Oriel Mon gallery where we had the opportunity to view some beautiful artwork as well as gaining an insight into some of the history of Anglesey.
Next was my favourite part of the island, the 2000 year old village at Din Lligwy. I loved the sense of history and the feeling of being at one with nature. The wild garlic smelt heavenly!
We then had a whistle stop tour of some of the island’s main attractions including the lifeboat at Moelfre,
Amwlch Copper Kingdom, Llynon Windmill and Celtic Houses. At Swtan, the last thatched cottage on the island which is now a heritage museum, we purchased a rather nice homemade bara brith (just like my mum used to make!). Yummy.
Because of the poor weather, we couldn’t get all the way to the lighthouse at South Stack, but as keen birdwatchers, we will be back for another visit soon.
I’m a food lover and attach a great deal of importance to the provenance of food, so it was great for Alwyn to introduce us to Nigel, a local producer at his smokehouse, where we were able to buy some local cheese. He also arranged for a special cheese tasting later that evening after dinner.
Overall, a fab experience!
excellent farm visit
Alwyn took us to visit a farm in North Wales. We had an excellent chat with the farmer Gareth, who is being featured in BBC recently. Gareth is very welcoming and shared a bit of the history of the farm and his life working on the farm. We saw beautiful scenery and lovely sheep!! Alwyn is very knowledgeable about local history and itinerary, keeping on introducing the villages and sceneries on the way and telling stories of the history. Took us to a seaside (cannot remember the Welsh name) which is beautiful and relaxing. The pace was kept just alright. A lovely afternoon exploiting north Wales. An itinerary where you cannot usually get as a tourist!! Highly recommend!
Welsh natural and cultural history
I would highly recommend a tour with Celticos if you are visiting North Wales. Since I was a first time visitor to this beautiful part of Britain, I wanted to explore the natural history and culture of the area. Because I don't drive and primarily use public transport, I was limited in my travels. Alwyn tailored my day tour to my interests, which included hiking in the mountains, visiting castles and towns, learning the history of slate mining and visiting a sheep farm, plus so much more 'off the beaten track'. Alwyn is a very knowledgable and entertaining guide and I will call on Celticos again if I am lucky enough to return to Wales.
Rediscovering North Wales
My children and I were gripped by the recent Hill Farm series on BBC2 Wales featuring Gareth Wyn Jones and his family. Living in Liverpool, my kids don't get much chance to get down on the farm or to see the spectacular mountains, so I was delighted to learn about Celticos' hill farm experience tours. We had a fabulous day out with Alwyn from Celticos and Liz from Golygfa Gwydir who drove us to the new Ogwen Centre where the children got to see the dramatic mountains and enjoy the interactive, hands on displays. They had fun exploring Cwm Idwal. Although I grew up in Anglesey, I had forgotten just how wonderfully rugged and amazing the scenery is in the Ogwen Valley. We visited Hafod y Llan, where the kids got to meet working sheepdogs which they fell in love with. We also visited Cynnan Jones the mushroom farmer which was a fascinating experience and an triumphant story of diversification although the shitake mushrooms he grows look like something you'd find on another planet! We also went to see Cae'r Gorse cottage, a smallholding and the home of the queen of Welsh literature, Kate Roberts, stopping for refreshments at Inigo Jones Slate Museum at Y Groeslon. But the icing on the cake was meeting The Tweeting Farmer himself, Gareth, and his lovely family who made us feel so welcome and the kids loved seeing the cows, sheep, goats, and hens. It was altogether a brilliant day out and our hosts Alwyn and Liz were a mine of information and really entertained the kids. The whole trip was a breath of fresh air and I highly recommend it to families.
Remarkable experience in Wales - a private tour
I and my girlfriend come from Ukraine and visited Wales for the first time. We had a private one-day tour through Snowdonia with Alwyn, and indeed we both will never forget this day. Alwyn is a true specialist in Welsh history and culture, and his love and passion towards his motherland are adorable. We have never been bored during the whole journey. Our eyes admired the picturesque scenery of mountains covered with forests with the distant line of sea next to horizon that created extraordinary impression of a fairytale that came true. Our ears were fond of Alwyn's various stories about the history of Wales, Welsh language, people, dwellings and realia. Our minds were puzzled with legends of ancient druids, the reasons for prosperity and decay of slate industry in Wales and unmatched architecture of Portmeirion village. And our hearts gradually fell in love with this beautiful land. The only disappointment for us was the lack of time, as we could not stay longer. We are very thankful to Alwyn for being our guide and would definitely recommend booking a tour with him to other tourists who wish to make the most of their trip to Wales.
Absolutely unforgettable!
I'm a student in Manchester and my sister visited from our home in Pennsylvania. We searched a long time for tours, but NO other tour company would book for only 2 people for less than £300. Even though nobody else booked on the same tour as us, Alwyn still ran it for just the two of us. We did the Conwy Valley and Menai Straights tour and have never seen such breathtaking scenery. Alwyn was friendly, informative and passionate about Welsh history, and an incredible story teller with an anecdote ready at every stop. You could tell he was incredibly respected and well liked within the community and works very hard at promoting local and responsible tourism. If you are considering North Wales as a holiday destination, you absolutely must book a tour with Alwyn.
Welsh Hill Farming - an unforgettable weekend
The Welsh Hill Farming experience was fabulous. We skirted the Carneddau mountain range. How can you have so much diversity in a relatively small area? The visits were well chosen, informative and entertaining. I thought I knew quite a bit about this area, so I was very impressed with the hidden gems we were taken to. Starting off with farmers working with shire horses, sheepdogs and new born lambs to behind the scenes with a farming family with a lon
g and fascinating history in the meat business -it set the scene for the variety of interesting people we were to meet during the weekend...all of them with an enthusiasm and a pride in their skills that was contagious! It was a privilege to be a part of it. Finishing the trip by visiting a reconstructed 'tyddyn' (a traditional smallholding) with its magic of days gone by and then leaping straight into modern times visiting the farmer of twitter fame and the BBCs Hill Farm series was a stroke of genius.......and it meant the most magnificent view was kept till the end. This trip had the wow factor and more....
A superb way of getting to see things for someone without a car
As soon as I saw their tours advertised, I knew that that Celticos offered something unusual and worthwhile. It turned out that I was the only person on that afternoon's tour, so Alwyn shaped the tour of the area around Conwy very much according to my wishes. His knowledge of the localities and being able to get to places and views inaccessible by public transport made me very glad that I went to the tourist info centre upon my arrival in the area.
My tour was a half-day one (I was actually quite tired at the end) and was worth every penny of the cost. A camera is a must! Unfortunately, all of my pictures are just that bit too big to be shown on this page.
Tour of north Wales
On Our first day in Wales we took a tour with ALWYN GRIFFITH, it really gave us a lot of information about HISTORY, INDUSTRY AND CUSTOMS OF THE WELSH PEOPLE. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful and diverse stops we made ranging from ROMAN RUINS, CELTIC BURIAL CHAMBERS, WELSH CASTLES, SLATE MINES, OLD BRIDGE, THE TOWN WITH THE LONGEST NAME IN EUROPE, CHURCHES, SHEEP FARMS AND MY FAVORITE... THE BEAUTIFUL SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK. The information that we received was a great foundation to explore more of Wales for the duration of our stay. I would also like to mention that we had our tour at the end of December. The weather was a concern but Alwyn used his knowledge of the area and was able to stay one step ahead of the rain. So we had a beautiful day. THANK YOU ALWYN! WE LOVED OUR TOUR THAT STARTED OFF OUR WONDERFUL WEEK IN WALES!
excellent way to see things
Alwyn Griffith gave us such a wonderful trip around Snowdon down to Shropshire (including the farm that had such a terrible time in the snow, as seen on TV programme). He knew where to park for spectacular views.
Doing the same journey would have been possible by train but this was door-to-door, so much easier and to have such a knowledgable guide was excellent.
It was fabulous. Thank you.
The hidden area around Conwy
Well the area that most tourists don't get to can be visited with a knowledgeable Welsh guide from Celticos. Explore the hidden special places of the Conwy River valley and Snowdonia. Visit the site of a Roman fort, sample traditional Welsh food products, stop at a hill farm, travel the single track roads to charming hamlets, and more. These tours allow you to immerse yourself in the northern Wales countryside.
the Mushroom and Funghi day.
Excellent day out. Weather was kind and the walk was not taxing. Cynan was a mine of imformation and a pleasing host. It was educational to see how he and his charming wife had built up a thriving business. Many, many thanks for a lovely day out.
AmeriCymru Trail
My wife and I spent three days last week with Alwyn and his Celticos team touring North Wales. I was overwhelmed with the research, planning and hospitality afforded us by this wonderful troupe of professionals. Although I have no Welsh ancestry, I enjoyed learning so much about Welsh history and culture. We were exposed to so many wonderful places which we never would have seen as typical tourists without their commitment to provide a truly first class experience. Gareth's farm, the ancient Amwlch copper mine, the slate quarries of Dinorwic , Penmanmawr and the New York cottages, the life boat station in Melfroe and the ancient Celtic settlement of Din Lligwy, are but a few of the highlights to which Alwyn introduced us. What ever your interest I can not recommend Celticos more highly if you want to get off the tourist path and experience the beauty and people of Wales.
Welsh Homecoming: Family Tree & Heritage Tours
Celticos and Segontium Searchers arranged for my own personalized "Who Do You Think You Are?" to trace one branch of my Welsh ancestors back to their roots in Northern Wales. Using some of the information provided about my ancestors, Keith was able to trace my family back to the 18th century. The genealogical report provided was professional and included copies of records found during the search, translations when necessary and a family tree for visualization. Working as a team Keith and Alwyn utilized their knowledge of the local area and the Welsh language and culture to locate houses, cemeteries and relevant contacts which were presented on a private tour of places relevant to my family history. The tour included explanations of the local history to transport me back to the times of my ancestors. We visited places that even the tour guides had never seen before. It was truely and adventure. I came away with a solid understanding of the life my ancestors lived and reasons they emmigrated to the USA. There were many surprises that made the tour an overwhelming, emotional and intimate experience. Celticos and Segontium Searches strived to make the tour very personal. Contact Celticos early in the planning stages of your trip to allow sufficent time for the research to be done and arrangements to be made for your tour. Thank you so much for a wonderful tour. North Wales is a beautiful and diverse, place to visit with lots of acitvities for all to enjoy! I hope to return another time to research another branch of my family tree.
Welsh Hill Farm Experience - Celticos Tours
Thoroughly enjoyable, thought provoking experience, incorporating social history into a well organised tour providing personal contact with a way of life so very different from the city where I have lived for most of my life.
It introduced me to great characters and traditions which remain unchanged over the years and all with a backdrop of Welsh culture.
I would heartily recommend this trip.
Mike Edwards.
Welsh Hill Farming Tour.
Irfon and Sharon W.
Alwyn had really done his research and had arranged for us to visit some of the most scenic locations in North Wales, especially Gareth`s farm. One really has to visit to appreciate the terrible conditions that they endured during the heavy snow last spring. This trip not only concentrates on the aspects of hill farming but also includes local interesting historical facts.alas
We enjoyed the trip immensely and would have no hesitation in recommending it.
Welsh Hill Farming Tour
What a weekend!
As a very inquisitive person I thought that I know a lot about the Conwy Valley! But CELTICOS taught me a better!
I got the wonderful opportunity to go through open gates, which are normally closed for us. This brought me into the position to meet very individual people with huge hearts and tremendous skills. We spent the whole weekend in the nature and with the nature.
The program holds not only what it says, no, it offers a lot more, appealing to all the senses and is suitable for all ages.
"Thank you" to everybody for the enlargement of my knowledge (not only about Welsh Hill Farming) - I would highly recommend this tour to everyone!
Slate Trail
Had a fabulous day exploring the old slate trails in the region. Alwyn is a great source of information and he found the most narrow roads and off beat tracks in all of Wales. Could have possibly found some of the trails by ourselves but would not have had the wealth of local knowledge and expertise that Alwyn provided. Trails are accessible for all levels of people with different hiking abilities. Will definitely use Celticos again the next time I am in Wales, and will look into trying a different tour. Thanks for a great day out.
Celticos tours wales
I enjoyed a lot spending time with Alwyn, our tour guide. He knows a lot about the history of the country and took us to many beatiful places, especially in the island of Anglesey. There we saw some celtic settlements, just amazing. We passed trough Snowdonia National Park also, another place worth a visit. Another impressive thing we saw was the copper mine at the Parys Mountain mines. So, this guys from Celticos really know how to make a nice tour for you!
Exploring the story of North West Wales
I was intrigued and delighted to have taken a tour with Celticos. Over the course of a very full day, Alwyn gave us a tour of some of the little known though highly significant historic sites. Many of these places are beautiful, enchanting or other wordly (Parys Mountain copper mines). He shed light on how Anglesey's natural resources shaped social and industrial history and gave insights into local culture such as how some of the local names had arisen. There was lots of variety and Alwyn generously tailored the day to suit the participants. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone wishing to explore the story of North West Wales.
Half day tour with Celticos
Very enjoyable trip through the Conwy Valley, Alwyn was an excellent guide. Although we have visited North wales many times we have not explored this particular area and were astounded by the history and scenery, would highly recommend.
