Some of the main sights

Bodysgallen Hall & Spa

Garden
Stately home

Secluded in over 200 acres of parkland 2 miles to the south of Llandudno with spectacular views of Snowdonia and Conwy Castle, Grade 1 listed Bodysgallen Hall provides all that is best in country house hospitality.  Beautiful gardens include a rare 17th-century parterre of box hedges filled with sweet-scented herbs, a walled rose garden and several follies.

Penrhyn Castle

Museum
Stately home

Explore this enormous 19th-century neo-Norman castle which sits between Snowdonia and the Menai Strait. You can’t help but be taken aback by the vast luxurious rooms, Gothic stairways and fine art on display. Hear tales of star-crossed lovers, sugar and slate fortunes and delve ‘below stairs’ into the Victorian kitchens.

Plas Newydd

Garden
Stately home

Set on the shores of the Menai Strait amidst breathtakingly beautiful scenery, this elegant house was redesigned by James Wyatt in the 18th century. The 1930s restyled interior is famous for its Rex Whistler association and contains his exquisite romantic mural and the largest exhibition of his works.

Bodnant Gardens

Garden

This historic, horticultural haven is a delight all year round. In spring enjoy daffodils, magnolias and rhododendrons; formal rose gardens and buzzing wildflower meadows in summer; a kaleidoscope of rich leaf colour in autumn; and sparkling, frosted landscapes in winter.

Great Orme

Farming
Sea
Perched on top of the Great Orme, near Llandudno, lies the Parc Farm with spectacular views of Snowdonia and the Irish Sea.

The National Trust bought the 145-acre farm in 2015. It came with grazing rights for the wider Great Orme, which is home to plants found nowhere else on earth. Farmer Dan Jones has taken on the sheep farm with a dream location for an annual rent of just £1. We decided to offer the farm at such a low rent, to support the tenant to farm in a way that protected its rare resident wildlife.

Beddgelert area

Ancient Monument
Farming
Mountains
Discover the tragic tale of Gelert, the faithful hound that gave the village of Beddgelert (Gelert's grave) its name.
Visit Tŷ Isaf National Trust shop nestled in the heart of Beddgelert village, a Grade II listed building dating back to the late 17th century - it's brimming with character.

A dragon sleeps beneath it
According to legend King Vortigern wanted to build a castle on top of Dinas Emrys, but every night his castle walls would fall down. Merlin (the wizard) claimed there were two dragons fighting beneath the hill that caused the walls to fall. Therefore Vortigern and his men dug into the mountain and released two dragons. The red and white dragon fought, eventually, the white dragon fled and the red dragon returned to his lair. Vortigern’s castle was built and named Dinas Emrys in honour of Myrddin Emrys (Merlin), and the red dragon has been celebrated ever since.
Hafod y Llan Farm
By combining traditional shepherding skills with current conservation objectives, Hafod y Llan is leading on an innovative trial for habitat management.
Since the purchase of Hafod y Llan in 2000, the Trust has been managing the farm to protect and restore its most sensitive habitats, like the upland heaths and blanket bogs.
Sheep numbers have been halved from the original 4000 count, and a herd of Welsh Black cattle has been introduced to graze the mountain and woods in the summer.

The National Slate Museum

Mountains
Museum

The National Slate Museum at Llanberis is one of the most alluring assets of this beautiful region. Visitors expecting dusty displays or worthy walkabouts are delighted to find a treasure trove of human stories and engaging activities, where craftsmen show the art of splitting slate and dramatic landscapes are magnets for exploration. The visit to this site will make the visit to Penrhyn Castle even more interesting.

Caernarfon Castle

Castle
Ancient Town
Sea

Caernarfon Castle and its walled town is a world heritage site, and deservedly so. This is much more than a ruin - it is a well-preserved building which mixes defensive stronghold with a royal palace, inspired by the walls of Constantinople with bands of decorative masonry, making a statement of dominance by a powerful king. Its site at a river mouth and on the Menai Straits has ensured its importance well past the medieval period of regional warfare.

Snowdonia National Park

Farming
Mountains

Snowdonia National Park includes 823 square miles (2132 square Km) of North West Wales, including Mount Snowdon itself, and the mountainous region around it. As well as striking mountain scenery, it is a treasure trove of history, from early warrior Princes through resolute farming stalwarts to early industrial entrepreneurs who plundered the rich resources of the region to roof the world with slate. It is also the home of rare animals, birds, flowers and trees, and host of stories to be discovered.
