For tours, based on Anglesey and Snowdonia, places around the Menai Straits are recommended. Caernarfon in particular ticks this box. If you want to spend more time in the Conwy valley, then Conwy itself and Betws y Coed are good choices, with good choices of characterful and comfortable accommodation.
