# Health matters and emergencies | CELTICOS

We hope you won't need to use the information in this section, but it's best to know how to deal with unforeseen emergencies.

In a real emergency, the phone number to call in Wales is 999. This will be responded to urgently - the first question in response is always what service you require - ambulance, police or fire.

For non emergencies, you can call **0845 46 47** or **111** for health advice.

If you need to contact North Wales Police in a non-emergency, the number is **101** or **0300 330 0101**

There are three major hospitals in North Wales (Ysbyty is Welsh for hospital):

- Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, a mile off the A55 expressway (this is the hospital that serves the Snowdonia & Anglesey area)
- Ysbyty Glan Clwyd near Rhyl, just off the A55 expressway
- Ysbyty Maelor in Wrexham

All three hospitals named have 24 hour Accident & Emergency/Casualty services.

There are other smaller hospitals with minor casualty units but which have limited opening hours. If you are in need of medical or dental advice the best thing to do is to speak with your accommodation provider who can advise. There are also many Chemists/Pharmacists in all towns who can advise and supply routine medicines.

A really important consideration for all travellers, of course, is to ensure that you have adequate insurance, which covers the full range and cost of any heath treatment and care.

For vistors from European Union countries, there are currently reciprocal arrangements for providing treatment, but you require evidence of your entitlement.
